The most reliable places to find hostile Assaultrons in Fallout 76 are the three missile silos, Watoga, Whitespring, Arktos Pharma, Duncan & Duncan Robotics, Vault 96, and several other fixed interior locations. However, not every Assaultron you encounter can be killed: some are friendly, quest-bound, event-specific, occasional spawns, or already dead.

This updated list includes newer Skyline Valley and Burning Springs locations as well as the classic Appalachia spawns. Spawn counts and behavior can vary with quest state, event conditions, and whether another player has recently cleared the area.

Assaultron locations in Fallout 76

The following locations are listed in the current April 5, 2026 spawn guide, supplemented by the Fallout 76 creature reference. Counts are useful for farming, but they should not be treated as a guarantee that every machine will be active on every visit.

Occasional or conditional Assaultron locations

Several locations are worth checking, but they are not dependable farming routes:

  • Clarksburg hardware store: an Assaultron may spawn upstairs, but the spawn is not guaranteed.
  • Red Rocket Mega Stop: an occasional Assaultron spawn.
  • Striker Row: the Strikebreaker variant can appear occasionally.

Finding no Assaultron at any of these locations is normal. Do not mistake an empty building for a failed quest state or a broken spawn.

Events and activities featuring Assaultrons

  • Encryptid: the Imposter Sheepsquatch is an Assaultron-based boss.
  • Test Your Metal: Rust Eagles use reprogrammed Assaultrons called Harvestrons.
  • Project Paradise: the Arktos Pharma Assaultron can appear in the biome lab.
  • AWOL Armaments: listed as an Assaultron event location.
  • Bots on Parade: can involve Enclave Assaultrons, which are friendly in that activity context.
  • Mischief Night: Camp Rapidan can feature three skeleton-painted Elite Rapidan Assaultrons.
  • Wild West Showdown: Nuka-World on Tour can feature Bounty Hunter Bots, reprogrammed Assaultrons.
  • Daily Ops: robots can be the enemy faction, but the location, enemy type, and mutation are randomized daily. An Assaultron is therefore not guaranteed.

Which Assaultrons can you actually kill?

A location alone does not tell you whether the robot is a valid target. Whitespring units, Polly at The Wayward, Enclave units in Bots on Parade, and Watoga Assaultrons after completing Mayor for a Day can be non-hostile. Some event and quest machines only appear when their associated content is active.

For a kill challenge, prioritize hostile fixed spawns such as the missile silos, Sugar Grove, Duncan & Duncan Robotics, Vault 96, Grafton Steel Underground, or the hostile Special agent at Camp Rapidan. Avoid relying on friendly, dead, or occasional spawns.

Fallout 76: Atomic Angler Bundle - Xbox One [Digital Code]
  • Hydro Tech Exo Power Armor: Deep water power armor or interesting way to catch fish by hand? This Power Armor is probably not best used for that.
  • Appalachian Contessa Prefab: Place the Appalachian Contessa in your C.A.M.P. and be the captain of your own ship.
  • Live Bait Barrel: Have a fresh selection of fishing bait available in your C.A.M.P. to help you catch some fish.
  • Floating Bouy Set: For those who likes to flot things around, even in radiated water
  • Charmcaster Fishing Rod: For those who said fising is a boring hobey

Assaultron variants and attacks

The standard Assaultron combines dangerous close-range melee attacks with a head-mounted laser. Its claws or blades are lethal at close range, while the laser charges before firing and becomes the immediate threat when the charge completes.

  • Assaultron Dominator: uses swords instead of standard claws and can use stealth technology, making it harder to track and target.
  • Assaultron Invader: uses electrically damaging claws.
  • Assaultron Intimidator: associated with Daily Ops.
  • Campus-security Assaultron: highly aggressive, does not flee, and can assist allied enemies.
  • Special agent: a distinct named Camp Rapidan variant rather than an ordinary Assaultron.

How to beat an Assaultron

  1. Keep your distance. Back away from the claws and blades while using cover, elevation, doorways, or long sight lines. Closing to melee range removes your safest advantage.
  2. React to the laser charge. When the head-mounted laser begins charging, immediately break line of sight or move behind solid cover. Do not wait to see whether the shot misses.
  3. Do not automatically aim for the head. Fallout 76 creature data lists a 0.33 head damage modifier for Assaultrons, so head hits are reduced rather than receiving a universal damage bonus. Target the body or another exposed area unless your weapon, build, or situation gives you a specific reason to do otherwise.
  4. Control the approach. Fight around obstacles that let you damage the robot, retreat, and force it to reposition. This is safer than standing in the open and trading attacks.
  5. Track Dominators carefully. Stealth technology can interrupt visual tracking. Use sound, detection indicators, and short controlled movements instead of assuming the robot has stopped attacking.
  6. Separate groups where possible. Campus-security units and event enemies may support allied robots. Pull one target away from the group before committing to a prolonged fight.

The core rule is simple: distance protects you from melee, cover protects you from the charged laser, and controlled positioning prevents the Assaultron from forcing a close-range fight.

Best places to farm Assaultrons

For the largest number of machines

Choose Missile Silo Alpha, Bravo, or Charlie. Each is listed with nine Assaultrons, making the silos the clearest high-volume option. They require more travel and interior clearing than a single-location route, but they are more dependable than occasional outdoor spawns.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a single quick check

Try Sugar Grove, Duncan & Duncan Robotics, Vault 96, Grafton Steel Underground, or the fixed locations in Watoga. These are easier to check than a full missile silo, although the number of active enemies can depend on server state and progression.

For a Skyline Valley target

Go to Camp Rapidan for the hostile Special agent, or check Slumber Mill Motel if you need to find the dead Assaultron rather than fight one.

Plan: Assaultron head farming

Plan: Assaultron head can drop from Assaultrons only if your character is at least level 25 and has not already learned the plan. The listed chance is 1.25% from enemies below level 36, 2% from enemies at levels 36–45, and 3% from enemies at level 46 or higher. Encryptid has a listed 10% reward chance.

For ordinary enemy drops, higher-level Assaultrons offer the better listed chance, but the percentages are still low. Encryptid is the most attractive source when the event is available and you can contribute safely to the fight. Friendly machines, Polly, dead robots, and Assaultrons that never spawn cannot provide a normal kill-based farming loop.

Why older Assaultron lists can be incomplete

Many older guides focus on legacy locations such as Watoga, Whitespring, the missile silos, and Sugar Grove. The current references also include Burning Springs/Athens, Camp Rapidan, and Slumber Mill Motel, so a modern route should account for the newer Skyline Valley and Burning Springs content.
