Origins is a story prequel, but it came out after City. The expanded list below also separates handheld, mobile, and VR releases from the main series.
Core Batman: Arkham games in release order
- Batman: Arkham Asylum — August 25, 2009. Rocksteady’s game launched for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. DC’s game listing gives the date and platforms.
- Batman: Arkham City — October 2011. The regional launch dates were October 18 in North America, October 19 in Australia, and October 21 in Europe and other global territories, according to the 2011 announcement. DC’s listing gives October 18 and lists Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
- Batman: Arkham Origins — October 25, 2013. Available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U, it is set several years before Asylum and City. Its earlier story setting does not change its place after City in release order. DC’s listing provides the date and platforms; the prequel setting is described in the 2013 announcement.
- Batman: Arkham Knight — June 23, 2015. The main-series release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC was described by Warner Bros. as Rocksteady’s conclusion to the series begun with Asylum and City. DC’s listing gives its date and platforms.
Other Batman: Arkham releases, in release order
These titles broaden the list beyond the four main console games. Their platforms and formats differ, so they are labeled rather than folded into the core sequence.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League — February 2, 2024
This Rocksteady game is related to the Arkhamverse, but it is not titled Batman: Arkham and stars the Suicide Squad in a third-person action shooter. DC identifies Rocksteady as the studio behind the Arkham series and gives the game’s release date on its listing. It belongs in a broader Arkhamverse chronology, not among Batman: Arkham-titled releases.
Release order versus story order
Play the main games by release date—Asylum, City, Origins, then Knight—if you want the order players encountered them and the series’ original progression. Origins takes place earlier in Batman’s career, before the events of Asylum and City, making it a prequel in the story while remaining third in release order. The dated list above does not claim a complete chronological order for every spin-off or VR title.
#1 Best Overall
- Batman: Arkham Collection brings you the definitive versions of Rocksteady's Arkham Trilogy games, including all post-launch content, in one complete collection.
- Experience two of the most critically acclaimed titles of the last generation - Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, with fully remastered and updated visuals.
- Complete your experience with the explosive finale to the Arkham series in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Does the Arkham Trilogy collection include every game?
No. The Nintendo Switch Batman: Arkham Trilogy includes Asylum, City, Knight, and their previously released DLC; it omits Origins, Blackgate, Lockdown, and the VR titles. For the physical Switch edition, the cartridge contains Asylum, while City and Knight require an online connection to download and install. See Warner Bros. Games’ collection details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is not dated in this list
Batman: Arkham VR and Batman: Arkham Underworld are not assigned positions here: the available WB Games page for Arkham VR describes the game but does not show its original release date, and an authoritative original date for Underworld is not established here. That means this is a release-dated list of the main games and the identified companion, mobile, and VR releases—not a claim that every Arkham-branded or Arkhamverse product has been exhaustively dated.
