Battlefield 6 has large-scale objective battles, close-quarters infantry modes, a campaign, and the free-to-play REDSEC experience. There is no single best mode for everyone: choose by whether you want vehicles and big maps, a clear attack-and-defend objective, fast infantry combat, or REDSEC’s ranked Battle Royale. Matchmaking playlists rotate, so the full mode list is not a guarantee that every mode is currently available.
What game modes does Battlefield 6 have?
EA groups Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough, and Escalation under All-Out Warfare. Its tactical multiplayer set includes Squad Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill. Battlefield 6 also includes a Campaign, REDSEC, and Portal custom experiences. EA’s official mode guide describes the multiplayer modes; its mode help page also points players to Campaign, REDSEC Ranked, and Portal.
All-Out Warfare: big maps and team objectives
Conquest
Teams capture and hold multiple objectives. Holding territory drains the opposing team’s lives, while revives can preserve them. Conquest is the clearest choice if you want broad objective control, vehicles, and large combat zones; EA describes it as a mode for tanks, jets, and attack helicopters.
Rush
Rush gives teams opposite roles around M-COM stations. Attackers plant explosives and must manage limited lives; defenders try to stop them and defuse charges. Choose it for a defined attack-and-defense battle rather than a match built around roaming between many objectives.

Breakthrough
Attackers push through successive sectors while defenders try to hold each one. When attackers capture a sector, their lives reset for the next push. It suits players who want a clear frontline and a changing objective without Conquest’s spread of capture points.
Escalation
Teams capture strategic points. As control expands, fewer points remain, concentrating the fighting around them. It starts with territorial objectives and becomes more focused as the match develops.
Tactical multiplayer: infantry and close-quarters fights
Squad Deathmatch
Four squads compete to reach a kill target. Pick it when you want a smaller-team contest in which squad performance matters more directly than holding a map-wide territory.
Team Deathmatch
Infantry-focused combat; the team with the most kills wins. It is the straightforward option when you want to concentrate on fighting rather than completing capture objectives.

Domination
An infantry-only territory-control mode. Teams capture and hold objectives, making it a better fit than deathmatch if you want close-range combat with a clear reason to move and coordinate.
King of the Hill
Teams work together to secure a control point that moves during the match. Choose it for close-quarters objective play where the fight shifts as the point relocates.
REDSEC: Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal
REDSEC is Battlefield’s free-to-play experience. At launch, EA introduced Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal. Battle Royale supported up to 100 players in four-person squads or duos. Gauntlet was a round-based elimination mode in which squads competed across different missions. Portal provides tools to create custom experiences using REDSEC content. EA’s REDSEC launch announcement describes those launch formats; Portal-created experiences are distinct from a fixed official matchmaking mode list.
Which Battlefield 6 modes are ranked?
EA Help directs competitive players to Battlefield REDSEC Ranked. EA’s 2026 roadmap update says Ranked Battle Royale arrived in REDSEC in Season 3, while Multiplayer Ranked was still being evaluated for a future season. That does not establish ranked ladders for the standard Battlefield 6 multiplayer modes. See the roadmap update for the status EA described.

Announced seasonal modes and playlist changes
Some modes are seasonal announcements or rotating playlists, not permanent guarantees. EA’s Season 5 announcement said Rapid Royale was coming to REDSEC, with the regular lineup prioritizing it and Gauntlet leaving that lineup at the season’s start. It also described a planned rotation between Rapid Royale Solos and Battle Royale Duos. Because those are announced changes and live playlist availability can move on, check the in-game menu for what can be queued now. The announcement is at EA’s Season 5 page.
EA also announced Carrier Strike for a Top Gun collaboration: naval, air, and ground forces fight to destroy the opposing aircraft carrier. The announcement describes a jets-only Gauntlet mission for REDSEC as well. These are announced seasonal content, not evidence that either mode is a permanent or currently live queue. See EA’s Top Gun announcement.
What Battlefield 6 game mode should you play?
| If you want… | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Large maps, vehicles, and broad territory control | Conquest | Multiple objectives and large combat zones; vehicles are central to its all-out warfare feel. |
| A focused attack-and-defend match | Rush | Attackers target M-COM stations while defenders try to stop and defuse them. |
| A frontline that advances by sectors | Breakthrough | Attackers push through successive sectors against defenders. |
| Territory control that tightens as the match goes on | Escalation | Fewer strategic points remain as teams expand control. |
| Infantry combat without capture objectives | Team Deathmatch | The team with the most kills wins. |
| Close-quarters objective play | Domination or King of the Hill | Domination is infantry-only territory control; King of the Hill centers on a moving point. |
| Small-team kill competition | Squad Deathmatch | Four squads race to a kill target. |
| A ranked competitive queue | REDSEC Ranked | EA’s reviewed ranked guidance identifies REDSEC Ranked Battle Royale; it does not establish Multiplayer Ranked as live. |
EA’s own practical groupings are useful starting points: Conquest, Breakthrough, and Escalation for large maps; Rush and King of the Hill for objective play; and the deathmatch modes for kill-focused matches. Which one you can actually queue for depends on the rotating playlists.
