There are four Starmetal fragments in Avowed, one in each major region: Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp, and Galawain’s Tusks. Take a fragment to Forgemaster Dela at Solace Keep to forge either a one-handed sword or an arquebus; later fragments let you refine the weapon you chose. This guide covers each location, the smith, the weapon options, and a progression caveat.
Where to find all four Starmetal fragments
The fragment locations below follow the regional route. The guides cited here were published in February 2025; landmark details and item behavior can change with game updates.
Dawnshore: Godless Altar
Look for the Godless Altar in the Southern Embrace, near the Emerald Stair Gatehouse and close to the coast. Xaurips occupy the area. The nearby beacon and camp provide useful landmarks for reaching the altar. PC Gamer’s guide and VULKK’s guide both identify this as the Dawnshore fragment site.
Emerald Stair: Damp Burrow
Damp Burrow is in the Rolling Crags, northwest of Fior mes Ivèrno. Spiders and an ogre guard the fragment. There are several ways into the cave: use its entrance, drop through a hole near the pond above, or break through floorboards in a nearby abandoned house, as described by PC Gamer. VULKK also places the fragment at Damp Burrow.

Shatterscarp: Abandoned Mine
The Shatterscarp fragment is in the Abandoned Mine north of Thirdborn. The guides describe the approach differently: one route starts at a small cave west of the central mountain range, then follows stairs and a ladder before heading east, jumping across and squeezing through a narrow passage to a sloped descent. Another approach climbs around the ridge above the Thirdborn camp to a plateau. Use the Abandoned Mine and the nearby Thirdborn landmarks to orient yourself if the terrain or route differs in your game. See VULKK and PC Gamer.
Galawain’s Tusks: Ash Forest crater
Search the crater in the Ash Forest. The Starmetal fragment is at the Destul bounty location, and collecting it brings Destul into the fight. Defeat Destul before claiming the fragment. Both VULKK and PC Gamer describe the encounter at the crater.

How to have Forgemaster Dela forge the weapons
Bring a Starmetal fragment to Forgemaster Dela in the smithy at Solace Keep in Galawain’s Tusks. The fragment must be in your inventory when you speak to him; one in storage will not do. The quest, “Forged of Star-Stuff,” begins when you find the first fragment, but following its objectives is not required to have Dela forge a weapon, according to VULKK.
- Find a Starmetal fragment in one of the four regions.
- Keep the fragment in your inventory and travel to Solace Keep in Galawain’s Tusks.
- Speak to Forgemaster Dela in the smithy and choose the weapon to forge.
- Bring additional fragments to Dela to refine the weapon you made.
Which Starmetal weapon should you choose?
Your first fragment makes one of two weapons: Meteor Blade, a one-handed sword, or Moonstrike, an arquebus. A further fragment refines the selected weapon into Ondra’s Offense or Heavenstrike, respectively. The listed damage and stun values below are guide-reported item stats from PC Gamer’s February 2025 guide, not independent tests. They may differ in a later game version.

Choose based on your combat style: Meteor Blade is the close-range sword route, while Moonstrike is the ranged arquebus route. Both paths have frost-oriented effects. The stats and effects are reported by PC Gamer and VULKK; check the item descriptions in your current game version before deciding on the basis of exact values.
Can you get both weapon paths?
The choice determines which weapon your first fragment creates, but it is not permanently exclusive if you collect and spend all four fragments as described by the guides. Use one fragment to make a weapon and another to refine it; the remaining fragments let you make and refine the other weapon path. The guides tie quest completion to collecting and using all four fragments.

Keep the Mount Forja warning in mind
VULKK warns that a decision after visiting Mount Forja may prevent access to the Starmetal weapons and recommends collecting the fragments before reaching that point. The guide does not identify the exact decision, so there is no reliable basis here to name a specific choice. If you want the weapons, collect the fragments before proceeding past Mount Forja.
When to spend a fragment on a refinement
VULKK’s upgrade advice is conditional rather than a universal rule: it recommends waiting to spend a second fragment until you have another Legendary weapon. The guide says refining increases the Starmetal weapon’s base physical damage and stun without changing its enchantments. Whether to wait depends on your current gear and how useful the unrefined weapon is to your build.
