Here is that checklist, with its scope made clear: it includes a species-like entry, a grouped trio, and mobile-game appearances, so it is not a count of distinct individual people or a publisher-certified complete roster.
All Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts, by first appearance
The list below follows the Kingdom Hearts Wiki roster template’s introduction-game groupings. It is a fan-maintained checklist, not an official Square Enix roster. The official Kingdom Hearts series overview and HD 1.5 ReMIX manual provide series and release context, but do not establish a complete, franchise-wide list of Final Fantasy appearances.

How to read this roster
The headings indicate the template’s stated introduction game for each entry; they do not provide a complete appearance-by-appearance history. The source does not establish which characters return in every later game, so this list should not be read as a record of all subsequent appearances.

- Some entries are not single people. “Moogles” refers to a species-like group, and “Yuna, Rikku, and Paine” are combined as one template entry.
- Mobile appearances are included. The Union χ grouping sits alongside console-game groupings, rather than being limited to mainline console releases.
- Variants can appear in fan categories. A category may include game-specific versions such as “Game:Cloud,” which are not necessarily additional distinct characters.
Is Leon the same character as Squall?
The roster template identifies the Kingdom Hearts entry as “Squall Leonhart” and notes the name Leon. This article follows that naming in the checklist; it does not treat Leon as an additional character.

Is there an official total of Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts?
No definitive publisher total is established by the cited official sources. The fan wiki category contains 42 pages, but that is a count of category pages—not 42 distinct people—and can include grouped entries, variants, and non-person entities. Because the roster’s inclusion rules for those cases are not an official standard, a single total would depend on what is counted.
