Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available now, and Mega Evolution is an official feature. But the early ROM-leak framing is not the same as confirmation: official announcements verify some forms, while a broader roster comes from a secondary guide. Here’s what is confirmed, what has been reported, and how the published counts differ.

What Mega Evolutions are in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

The answer depends on whether you mean forms confirmed directly by The Pokémon Company or the broader roster compiled by GamesRadar. The official sources confirm several named forms and provide a seven-form list for Mega Dimension; GamesRadar separates its reported roster by game access and content category. The official pages reviewed do not establish the ROM leak’s provenance, exact contents, or accuracy, so leak claims should not be treated as confirmed game facts.

Which forms have official confirmation?

Base-game announcements

In a September 12, 2025 announcement, The Pokémon Company revealed Mega Evolutions for Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja. The announcement describes them as ranked rewards. Read the official announcement.

Mega Dimension announcements

The Pokémon Company’s Mega Dimension announcement identifies Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. It says the two forms each have a separate Mega Evolution and use different Mega Stones; encountering them requires meeting specific conditions in Mega Dimension. The official Japanese Mega Dimension Pokémon page names seven newly discovered forms: Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho, Mega Baxcalibur, Mega Zeraora, Mega Lucario Z, and Mega Garchomp Z. This is a directly verifiable list from that page, not a complete roster of every Mega Evolution in the game.

What broader roster does GamesRadar list?

The following breakdown is attributed to GamesRadar’s guide, updated December 12, 2025; it is a secondary compilation, not an official roster publication. Its categories distinguish base-game new forms, rewards, and DLC.

See GamesRadar’s full guide.

Why do published Mega Evolution counts differ?

PokéBeach reported on January 13, 2026 that there are 26 new Mega Evolutions in the base game and 22 in the DLC, for 48 new Mega Evolutions across both. That is PokéBeach’s published count, not an independently settled total: it differs from a simple count of distinct DLC names in GamesRadar’s guide, and the sources reviewed do not clarify whether the discrepancy reflects a different counting scope or treatment of variants. Read PokéBeach’s report.

How Mega Evolution works in Legends: Z-A

The Pokémon Company’s general explainer describes Mega Evolution as temporary. The Trainer wears a Key Stone and the Pokémon holds a Mega Stone; the transformation changes the Pokémon’s appearance and can sometimes change its type. Read the official Mega Evolution explainer.
