The most important Roblox control is the in-experience Help menu. Roblox experiences can use different controls, rules, and mechanics, so no single keyboard, controller, or mobile chart works everywhere. Use the guide below for platform-wide controls, then open Help inside the experience to confirm its specific shortcuts and gestures.

How Roblox controls work
Roblox has a small set of shared platform controls, but each experience can add or change movement, interaction, combat, inventory, emotes, chat commands, and other mechanics. Roblox therefore does not have one universal control scheme for every experience.
When a control listed below does not appear or does not respond, check the experience’s Help menu first. The developer may have changed the control or disabled the related feature.

Open the in-experience menu and Help
While playing, open the Roblox or Hamburger Menu to access available experience options. The current Experience Controls system may include:
- Chat — turns in-experience chat on or off.
- Voice chat — turns the microphone on or off.
- Quick Words — turns Quick Words on or off.
- Report Abuse — opens the abuse-reporting tool.
- Self View — shows or hides self-view when supported.
- Capture — turns screen capture on or off when supported.
- Leaderboard — shows or hides the leaderboard when supported.
- Emotes — opens or hides the Emotes wheel when supported.
- Inventory — opens or hides inventory when supported.
- Respawn — also called Reset Character.
The Hamburger Menu displays only features enabled for the particular experience. Report Abuse is always available, but missing chat, inventory, emotes, capture, or respawn options may simply mean that the experience does not support them.
Roblox PC controls
Use Help for the experience’s keyboard shortcuts
On PC, the official control reference is the in-experience Help menu. It shows the current keyboard shortcuts and mouse instructions for the experience you are playing. This is more reliable than copying a generic chart because a role-playing game, obstacle course, simulator, and shooter may use different actions.
Camera controls
In Classic camera mode, the camera stays fixed until you adjust it manually. To change your viewpoint, hold the right mouse button and drag.
In Follow camera mode, the camera rotates with your avatar when you move right or left. Roblox generally offers Classic and Follow modes unless the experience developer has locked the camera.

Shift Lock
The setting is called Shift Lock Switch. When it is available, press the keyboard’s Shift key to toggle between camera modes.
Shift Lock is not guaranteed to work. It will not work when the experience developer locks the camera to a specific mode, and the option may not be available in the experience.

UI navigation mode
The key enters or exits UI navigation mode when UI Navigation Toggle permits it. If you repeatedly activate UI navigation by accident, open the in-experience settings and disable UI Navigation Toggle.
Roblox Xbox controls
Xbox provides a general controller layout, but individual experiences can still use different rules and mechanics. To see the controller map while playing:
- Open the Roblox Menu button.
- Select Settings by pressing Up on the left thumb-stick.
- Press the Right Bumper (RB) to open the Help tab.
That Help tab is the best place to confirm the controls for the current experience. Roblox supports Xbox cross-platform play with players on PC, Mac, and mobile, although the available features and input methods can differ by platform.

Xbox text chat
In a supported experience, use controller-based text chat as follows:

- Press the controller’s Menu button to open the in-experience menu.
- Select Chat to open the on-screen keyboard.
- Type your message.
- Press R2 to send it.
You can also connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to the Xbox for text entry. Xbox chat features depend on experience support. Roblox says Xbox communication may be available through Voice Chat and Experience chat in supported experiences.
Party Voice and unfiltered chat are limited to age-checked users and eligible friends. Filtered chat remains the standard for other interactions.
Roblox mobile controls
Mobile controls are especially experience-dependent. Developers can implement different touch buttons, gestures, and mechanics, so there is no single verified mobile layout that applies identically across Roblox.
To find the correct controls, open the experience’s Help menu and look for its listed mobile device gestures. Use that information instead of relying on a generic third-party control chart.

If an expected touch button is missing, the experience may not use that action, may display it only in a particular situation, or may provide a different gesture. The experience’s own Help screen is the authoritative reference.

The in-experience settings menu includes options for Volume, Camera, Graphics, and Accessibility.
Reduce Motion
Reduce Motion reduces or disables certain screen effects. For example, it changes the in-game menu animation from sliding to fading.
Background Transparency
Background Transparency makes interface backgrounds more opaque, which can improve contrast and legibility. It does not make the interface elements themselves more transparent.
UI Navigation Toggle
UI Navigation Toggle determines whether pressing enters and exits UI navigation mode. Disable it if the key is being pressed accidentally and interrupting normal play.

Quick troubleshooting
A keyboard shortcut does nothing
- Open the experience’s Help menu and verify the shortcut.
- Check whether the action is available only in a particular mode or situation.
- Look in the experience menu for a disabled feature.
- Remember that some controls are developer-defined rather than universal Roblox commands.
Shift Lock is missing or does not work
Check whether Shift Lock Switch is available in the settings. If it is unavailable or ineffective, the developer may have locked the camera mode.
The menu does not show Respawn, Inventory, or Emotes
The Hamburger Menu lists only features enabled by that experience. Missing controls do not necessarily indicate a Roblox or controller problem.
Chat is unavailable
Chat must be supported by the experience, and account eligibility or communication settings may also affect availability. On Xbox, check the experience menu and use a USB or Bluetooth keyboard if controller text entry is inconvenient.

- Not every experience uses the same controls. Only general controls are shared across experiences.
- Shift Lock does not always work. It depends on the Shift Lock Switch setting and developer camera restrictions.
- Respawn and Reset Character refer to the same control. Roblox’s current Experience Controls documentation uses Respawn and lists Reset Character as the alternate name.
- Every menu is not identical. Available controls depend on the experience; Report Abuse is the exception and remains available.
- Xbox does not expose every Roblox feature. Roblox says creating or joining groups and adding Roblox friends are not currently available on Xbox; those actions can be performed on PC/Mac or mobile.
- There is no universal command syntax. Chat commands, emotes, abilities, and interaction keys can be specific to the experience.
The Bottom Line
For Roblox on PC, Xbox, or mobile, start with the experience’s Help menu. It provides the controls that actually apply to that game, while the platform-wide settings and menu options explain camera behavior, accessibility, chat, and available features.
