For the quickest route, buy Shaman runes from a Rune Broker in a faction capital. If you want to discover a rune in the world instead, check its individual walkthrough first: Wowhead warns that learning the related ability from a vendor item may prevent some associated discoveries or rune quests from working properly. The consolidated guide’s latest stated update is December 18, 2024, so its locations and mechanics should not be treated as a fresh confirmation of every in-game detail in 2026.
All 29 Shaman runes by gear slot
Wowhead’s consolidated Shaman guide lists 29 runes across eight Shaman gear slots. Ring runes are documented separately because most are shared across classes.

According to Wowhead’s guide, Rune Brokers in the main cities of each race sell all Season of Discovery class runes and class skill books. The guide gives these Broker locations and coordinates:

These locations and the purchase route are from the guide last stated as updated December 18, 2024; Blizzard’s announcements explain the rune system and discoveries, but do not verify current Broker locations or prices.
Rune engravings and skill books are different
The Rune Broker sells rune engravings as well as class skill books, but they are distinct things. Wowhead separately lists skill-book vendors: Milton Sheaf in Stormwind’s Dwarven District (74.0, 7.6) and Zor Lonetree in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Wisdom (39.0, 38.0). The guide says these vendors sell skill books from all phases.

Should you buy a rune or discover it?

If you want to complete a rune’s original world method, read its linked walkthrough before buying it. Wowhead cautions that learning an ability first from a vendor item may cause some related discoveries or rune quests not to function properly. The guide does not say that every rune’s discovery is affected.
Rune Engraving was designed to let players apply and remove abilities while experimenting with builds, as Blizzard explains in its Season of Discovery Rune Engraving overview. Blizzard’s Phase 4 announcement also identifies new rune discoveries as part of that phase’s content.

How Icon-based rune discoveries work
Some Shaman discoveries use Icons; this process is specific to Icon-based discoveries, not a universal method for every rune. Wowhead’s guide describes the sequence as follows:
- Equip the relevant Icon in the Relic slot.
- Perform the actions that match the Icon to build “Building Inspiration.”
- Wait for the status to change to “Inspired,” then click the Icon.
Changing Icons removes accumulated stacks, so keep the same Icon equipped while building Inspiration.
