Destiny 2’s Solar subclass has six named effects in Bungie’s current overview: three buffs—Radiant, Cure, and Restoration—two enemy debuffs—Scorch and Ignition—and the Firesprite construct. In broad terms, Solar lets you burn and explode enemies while empowering and healing allies. Which effects your character can create depends on your class, abilities, Aspects, Fragments, weapon perks, and game updates.

What are all the Solar effects in Destiny 2?

Bungie groups Solar’s effects into three buffs, two debuffs, and one construct in its Solar subclass overview. A construct is not listed as either a buff or a debuff.

Category Effect Broad purpose
Buff Radiant Empowers you or allies.
Buff Cure Provides healing.
Buff Restoration Provides healing over time.
Debuff Scorch Burns enemies; accumulated Scorch can contribute to an Ignition.
Debuff Ignition Causes an explosive Solar effect on an enemy.
Construct Firesprite A Solar object created by certain build effects; its behavior depends on the effect that creates or uses it.

This is the official overview’s category list, not a complete ability reference. It does not establish every trigger, stack threshold, duration, damage value, or PvP-versus-PvE difference. Check the description of the specific ability, Aspect, Fragment, or perk you are using, especially after an update.

What do Scorch and Ignition do?

Scorch

Scorch is a Solar debuff applied to enemies. Some Solar sources add Scorch, and other effects can interact with the Scorch they have applied. Weapon perks can contribute too: Bungie’s Solar overview gives Incandescent as an example, spreading Scorch to nearby enemies after a target is defeated.

Ignition

Ignition is a separate Solar debuff effect associated with an explosion. Scorch and Ignition are related, but they are not interchangeable terms: Scorch is the burning debuff, while Ignition is the explosive result that some Solar setups can produce.

The exact conditions for causing an Ignition are build- and patch-sensitive. Bungie’s overview names the effects but does not provide a universal current stack threshold or damage figure, so avoid assuming that every source of Scorch combines in exactly the same way.

What is the difference between Cure and Restoration?

Both are Solar healing buffs, but they are distinct effects. Cure provides healing; Restoration provides healing over time. Bungie’s Solar build guide says every class has access to Cure and Restoration, though the classes differ in their strengths and methods of using them. The overview does not specify a single universal amount or duration for either effect.

What does Radiant do?

Radiant is Solar’s weapon-empowering buff. It can support offensive play, including team-oriented builds, but the exact way a character gains or shares it depends on the chosen kit. Bungie’s guide identifies Radiant as part of Solar’s support and damage toolkit rather than setting out one trigger that applies to every class or build.

What is a Firesprite?

A Firesprite is Solar’s named construct, separate from the buff and debuff categories. Builds can create Solar interactions through abilities, Aspects, Fragments, and weapon perks, but the overview alone does not establish a universal current pickup effect for Firesprites.

Older Lightfall-era patch notes described Firesprites granting grenade energy on pickup and documented specific effects for Ember of Mercy and Ember of Resolve at that time. Those notes are historical; they should not be treated as an exhaustive statement of current behavior without accounting for later updates.

How class and build choices change Solar effects

Solar’s broad purpose is to heal and buff allies while damaging enemies with Scorch and Ignition, but classes approach that purpose differently. Bungie’s build guide describes broad tendencies, not a ranking or a guarantee that every build will perform the same way.

Class Bungie’s broad example What that suggests for a build
Warlock Particularly proficient at giving and maintaining offensive and defensive buffs for a team. Consider Solar when team support and keeping buffs active are priorities.
Hunter Can use Golden Gun for high damage and can grant Radiant. Solar can combine damage-focused play with weapon empowerment.
Titan Can build around survivability and melee damage. Solar can emphasize staying power and close-range offense.

Within any class, the effect source matters. Abilities supply the starting point; Aspects can change or improve abilities and open Fragment slots; Fragments further refine the setup. Weapons and their perks can add another route into Solar interactions, as Incandescent does with Scorch.

A specific example: Solar Hunter’s Crackshot Aspect

In Bungie’s 2026 preview, the Solar Hunter Aspect Crackshot fires up to three scorching shots at marked targets, and landing all three cures the player. Bungie also describes combining Crackshot’s Scorch stacks with other Scorch sources to cause Ignitions. This is an example of that Aspect’s described interaction, not a general promise that every Solar combination behaves identically.

Why Solar details can change between updates

Solar effect names and broad categories are useful for understanding a build, but individual triggers and values can change. For example, a Bungie Help response dated June 9, 2026, points to Update 9.7.0 and quotes an On Your Mark change: “Now grants Solar Restoration x1 for 3 seconds after final blows at ten stacks.” That is a rule for the named ability and update—not a general duration or trigger for every source of Restoration.

When a build guide or older patch note conflicts with an in-game description, use the current description and update context for the specific item or ability. The broad Solar categories remain a useful map, but they do not replace checking the mechanics of the source you equip.
