Umamusume: Pretty Derby has five core stats: Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, and Wit (also called Wisdom). Speed helps set top speed, Stamina helps maintain performance, Power aids acceleration, Guts matters in the late race, and Wit affects skill activation and other race behavior. No single stat spread suits every trainee: prioritize the races and running style you are training for, meet the relevant Stamina need, then weigh Speed and the other stats against skills and course conditions.
What the five stats do
The most detailed current mechanics reference here is an unofficial guide for the Global edition, last updated August 26, 2026. Its descriptions below are edition- and date-specific guidance, not official Cygames documentation. ([GameTora Global guide])
Speed
Speed affects a trainee’s top speed, with a particular role in the final spurt. It is not a standalone predictor of the result: the race also depends on sustaining effort, accelerating, skills, running style, and course conditions.
Stamina
Stamina supports sustained performance. When the trainee runs out of energy, speed falls; if too little remains, the final spurt may be delayed or weakened. The amount needed depends on factors including race length and speed. GameTora’s Global guide also specifies an 11% Stamina penalty for Pace Chasers; treat that as a mechanic of the guide’s stated edition, not a universal rule across versions.

Power
Power helps a trainee accelerate toward top speed and affects uphill running and lane-change speed. It can matter more in shorter races because there is less time to reach top speed, but that does not make one Power target right for every short-distance build.
Guts
Guts has a distinct role in late-race energy use; it is not simply another Speed stat. The Global guide describes its relationship to HP consumption in the final leg. The Umamusume Wiki describes Guts as reducing Stamina consumption in the final third, but warns that its descriptions reflect JP-launch mechanics and may not match English servers, particularly because Guts and Power have changed over time. Wit (Wisdom)
Wit, also called Wisdom, affects skill trigger rates, so it can matter when a build depends on skills activating at the right time. The Global guide also associates it with Rushed risk, downhill speed boosts, and variation in target speed. Its skill-trigger examples show diminishing gains as Wit rises, so more is not automatically the best use of every training opportunity.
How to choose training priorities
Use the races the trainee must run as the starting point, rather than chasing a universal stat target. Cygames’ official portal presents training as part of a loop involving skills and racing, and recommends choosing training suited to the trainee; it does not provide a detailed stat-by-stat reference. - Identify the goal races. Consider their distance and the trainee’s running style and aptitude. These shape how much sustained effort and acceleration the build needs.
- Check the Stamina demand. Longer races and high-speed performance can increase the need to sustain effort. If the trainee cannot preserve enough energy for the end, adding more top speed may not solve the problem.
- Build Speed once the relevant Stamina need is covered. The Global guide’s general guidance emphasizes Speed, then Power, after accounting for Stamina. Treat that as a starting framework, not a fixed order for every trainee.
- Account for acceleration and the course. Power contributes to acceleration, uphill running, and lane changes. Its value depends in part on how much time the race gives the trainee to accelerate and on course conditions.
- Weigh skills and Wit together. If the strategy relies on skills, Wit’s effect on trigger rates is relevant; consider whether that benefit is worth the training compared with other needs.
- Consider Guts in context. Its late-race role is real, but detailed descriptions can vary by version. Do not dismiss it outright or maximize it solely on the basis of a number from an older guide.
Why stat advice can differ by version
GameTora’s cited reference is labeled Global Edition and was last updated August 26, 2026; its mechanics and calculations should be read in that context. The Umamusume Wiki says its descriptions are accurate for JP servers at launch and only assumed to apply to English servers, specifically noting changes to Guts and Power. An archived uma.guide article likewise warns that its race-stat coverage concerns a past event or game version and may no longer be accurate. ([uma.guide archived race-stat article]) For detailed current decisions, prefer the edition-specific Global guide over launch-era or archived material, and avoid treating a formula or threshold as timeless.
