Avowed has five Strangled Adra pillars in total. Four are found across the main Living Lands regions—Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp and Galawain’s Tusks—and the fifth is in The Garden. Cleanse all five to complete the requirements for the Pillars of Eternity achievement or trophy.

To check the four regional pillars, open the Map, select a main region and view its completion list. Each region displays “Strangled Adra: 0/1” until its pillar has been cleansed. The Garden pillar is separate and does not represent another main-region counter. [Source]

1. Dawnshore: Emerald Stair Gatehouse
The Dawnshore Strangled Adra is inside the Precarious Hold, near the Emerald Stair Gatehouse in southeastern Dawnshore. The pillar is above and beyond the hold rather than directly beside the road, so it is easy to miss when approaching the landmark.

- Follow the interior route through the ruin.
- Activate the electrical generators as you progress.
- Use electric grenades or electricity-based abilities and spells when required.
- Continue along the linear path to the elevated section containing the pillar.
- Interact with the Strangled Adra to begin the Voice conversation and cleanse it.
You receive XP and 1 Adra, a material used for early gear-quality upgrades. A previously reported rock-collision problem near this location was fixed in Patch 1.3.0, so older guides describing the approach as blocked by the terrain may be outdated on a patched game. 2. Emerald Stair: Grim Wetlands
Find the Emerald Stair pillar in the Grim Wetlands, near the Overgrown Godless Tower. It is on a small elevated hill rather than at ground level, around the area north of the direction of Tama’s Cabin.
- Fast-travel to the Overgrown Godless Tower.
- Travel north toward the Grim Wetlands and the area around Tama’s Cabin.
- Search for the climbable route leading up to the small hill.
- Climb the ledges to reach the Strangled Adra.
- Interact with it and complete the Voice conversation to cleanse the pillar.
The reward is XP and 1 Awakened Adra. If you are searching only along the road or at the cabin’s elevation, you can pass the location without seeing it; the raised hill is the more useful landmark. [Location guide]
3. Shatterscarp: Broken Crown Rock
Shatterscarp’s Strangled Adra is high on Broken Crown Rock in the Great Sand Sea, northeast of Thirdborn. It is not sitting at the base of the rock formation.

- Reach Broken Crown Rock.
- Look for the spiderweb-covered passage around the formation.
- Burn through the webs with an attack or fire spell.
- Crouch and squeeze through the opened passage.
- Jump across to the distant ledge.
- Follow the route to the elevated pillar and cleanse it.
A shallow pool near the approach is guarded by spiders and leads toward the climbable route. Cleansing the pillar awards XP and 1 Corrupted Adra. The required web-burning and jump are the main reasons searching around the rock’s base does not reveal the pillar. [Location guide] [Route reference]
4. Galawain’s Tusks: Sallow Steppe
The fourth main-region pillar is in the southern Sallow Steppe of Galawain’s Tusks. Travel southeast of the Southern Warden Tower, near a camp, and search the higher rock formations.
- Enter the Sallow Steppe.
- Travel south and then east from the Southern Warden Tower area.
- Look for the elevated rock formations near the camp.
- Climb the rocks to the shelf containing the Strangled Adra.
- Interact with the pillar to cleanse it.
You receive XP and 1 Adra Bán, the material used for the highest gear-quality upgrades. The pillar is not at the tower or beside the main route; the elevated rock shelf is the key landmark. Note that the official region name is Galawain’s Tusks, not “Galawain’s Tusk.” [Location reference] [Map reference]

5. The Garden: Broken Aqueduct
The Garden contains a fifth Strangled Adra in the northeastern part of the Broken Aqueduct, on a raised rocky ledge. This pillar is required for the Pillars of Eternity achievement or trophy, so finding the four regional pillars is not enough.

- Start north of the aqueduct in the water.
- Sail southeast toward the passage blocked by brambles.
- Use a ranged fire attack to burn away the brambles.
- Create an ice platform on the water with an ice grenade or ice ability/spell.
- Jump from the ice platform into the newly opened passage.
- Follow the upper rock ledge south to the Strangled Adra and cleanse it.
Cleansing this pillar awards XP and completes the achievement/trophy requirement if the four earlier pillars have also been cleansed. [Location guide]

Complete the Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp and Galawain’s Tusks pillars before entering The Garden. Once you enter The Garden, you cannot return to the previous regions during that playthrough, according to the location progression warning. The safest order is therefore to cleanse all four main-region pillars first, then collect the fifth pillar in The Garden.

Current-version notes
The latest official announcement listed for Avowed is Patch 2.1, released March 25, 2026. Its listed changes cover settings, respawning encounters, crashes, Photo Mode, companions, controls and other fixes, but do not list changes to Strangled Adra locations or rewards. For clarity, the correct region spelling is Shatterscarp, and the correct fourth-region name is Galawain’s Tusks. Variations such as “Scatterscarp” and “Galawain’s Tusk” are common guide errors.
