Use the matching Server-Files archive for the exact All the Mods 9 – No Frills release you want, run it with the Java executable selected by the pack’s start script, and give it at least 6GB of allocated memory. For the currently listed 0.2 release, that means Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge; a practical planning target is 8–10GB. Every player must install that identical No Frills release and loader. The normal All the Mods 9 pack is not interchangeable with No Frills.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What All the Mods 9 – No Frills is
All the Mods 9 – No Frills is a trimmed Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. It removes many of the extras in the regular All the Mods 9 experience while retaining the same endgame progression. The project lists more than 400 mods and about 1.1 million downloads, so it remains considerably heavier than a vanilla server.

Treat those as a matched pair: the server archive is what runs the server, while the regular pack archive is used for player clients. Do not substitute a normal ATM9 download, an older No Frills build, or individually updated mods.
Choose a hosting method
Run the server on your own computer
Local hosting gives you complete control over files, Java, backups, firewall rules and update timing. It also makes you responsible for keeping the machine online, exposing the correct network port, diagnosing crashes and restoring a world after a failed update. A computer that is also running the game may need more memory and CPU headroom than the server’s minimum allocation.

Use a managed Minecraft host
A managed host can provide an always-on machine, a web console, automated or scheduled backups and a networking panel. You still need to supply the correct custom Forge files and pin the pack version. Before paying for a plan, confirm all of the following with the provider:
- Custom Forge server files for Minecraft 1.20.1 are supported.
- The plan can allocate at least 6GB, with 8–10GB preferable for a typical ATM9 No Frills group.
- You can select or verify the Java runtime used by the server process.
- Backups can be downloaded and restored, not merely listed in a control panel.
- The panel allows a specific pack release to remain installed instead of silently replacing it.
- Support can investigate modded Forge crashes and provide the public connection address.
The official All The Mods server guidance covers both self-hosted and third-party-host installation. The choice is therefore operational: local hosting minimizes recurring service costs but increases administration, while managed hosting trades an ongoing fee for convenience and infrastructure.

Requirements and resource planning
Software and files
- The exact No Frills client release your players will use.
- The matching Server-Files archive from that same release.
- A compatible Java runtime, with the intended executable explicitly selected if more than one Java version is installed.
- Enough free disk space for the extracted server, generated libraries, logs, backups and the growing world.
- Permission to open the server’s listening port on a local firewall or through the host’s networking controls.
How much RAM to allocate
The official server guide states 6GB or more of allocated RAM. A separate current All The Mods installation overview lists 8GB minimum and 10GB recommended for ATM9. Read those figures as two planning levels rather than a contradiction: 6GB is a lower baseline for a carefully configured, lightly populated server; 8–10GB is a more practical starting range for No Frills with several players, exploration and world generation.
| Allocation | How to interpret it | What may require adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| 6GB+ | Minimum guidance in the official server guide | Player count, chunk loading and generation may force lower view distance or additional tuning |
| 8GB | Practical minimum listed in the installation overview for ATM9 | Monitor pauses and memory errors as players explore separate areas |
| 10GB | Recommended starting point in that overview | Still depends on CPU speed, concurrent players, view distance, simulation distance and other JVM/server settings |
Allocation is not the same as total physical memory. Leave the operating system, the game client and other services their own headroom. Increasing the heap indefinitely does not fix a slow CPU, a saturated disk or an incorrectly selected Java executable; check logs and server behavior before changing JVM flags.

Download the correct server archive
- Open the All the Mods 9 – No Frills project on CurseForge and select its Files tab.
- Choose the exact release you intend to run. For the currently listed release, select No Frills 0.2, dated April 24, 2025.
- Download the file whose name identifies it as Server-Files. Downloading only the client modpack zip does not provide a complete server installation.
- Keep the server archive and the client release label together in your records. That label is what you will give to players and use when checking future updates.
Do not mix the server archive from one release with a client profile from another. A seemingly minor mod revision can change registries, recipes or network protocols and prevent clients from joining.
Install a local server step by step
1. Create a clean server directory
Make a new directory dedicated to this world. Do not extract over an old ATM9, No Frills or vanilla folder. A clean directory makes it possible to identify missing files and to roll back by replacing the directory with a known-good copy.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Extract every member of the Server-Files archive into that directory. Keep the supplied scripts, configuration files, libraries and mod files together. If your operating system offers an option such as “extract here,” use it so the script can find the files at the paths expected by the archive.
2. Check the supplied setup configuration
Inspect the start script and any setup YAML or similar configuration file included with the archive. If the file asks for a Minecraft version and loader, enter the values belonging to the release you downloaded. The official guide’s ATM9 example uses Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge loader 47.3.7; use that loader only when it is the value pinned by your selected release. Confirm the exact loader in the release’s supplied files before changing a configuration or publishing a command.

- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Do not replace the pack’s Forge libraries with a newer loader simply because one is available. Modpacks are tested against a particular loader range, and changing it can create startup or registry errors.
3. Select and verify Java
Install a Java runtime compatible with the pack and the supplied launch script. Then check which executable the script will actually call. Running java -version in a terminal shows the operating system’s default, but that default may not be the one the server uses when several Java installations are present.
If the output is not the intended runtime, either edit the script to point to the full path of the compatible Java executable or configure your operating system’s Java alternatives so the desired version is selected. Repeat the check from the same account and environment that will launch the server. A correct Java installation that the script never invokes is functionally the wrong Java installation.
4. Set the memory before first launch
Use the memory settings already present in the supplied script as a starting point, then set the maximum allocation to at least 6GB. For most small groups, begin at 8GB; 10GB gives more headroom during exploration and generation when the host has the available physical memory. Keep the minimum and maximum values consistent with the amount you have reserved for the server and the operating system.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Do not allocate all physical RAM. A machine with 16GB total, for example, cannot safely give the entire amount to Minecraft while also running the operating system, a desktop, voice chat and a client. Watch the server’s memory behavior after players have explored several new areas rather than judging it from an empty world.
5. Start once and accept the EULA
- Run the archive’s supplied start script from the server directory, not from a different working directory.
- Watch the console and log output for missing files, Java errors or a loader mismatch.
- On the first launch, the server normally creates
eula.txt. Open that file, read the Minecraft EULA and change the acceptance line only if you agree to its terms. - Run the same start script again after saving the EULA file.
- Consider the installation ready only when the console reaches its normal Done state for the selected release. A window that remains open while reporting repeated exceptions is not a successful launch.
Keep the first successful log. It provides a baseline for diagnosing later changes and makes it easier to distinguish a new problem from a file that was missing from the original extraction.
6. Configure the network boundary
For a local server, allow the Java server process through the operating system firewall and configure the router’s port forwarding if players are connecting from outside your home network. The exact screens and fields differ by operating system, router and internet provider, so use instructions verified for your own equipment rather than copying a universal recipe. For a managed host, perform the equivalent action in its networking panel.
Confirm the public address through a private channel and avoid posting it publicly. A server can be running correctly while friends still cannot connect because the firewall blocks it, the router forwards to the wrong internal machine, the public address changed, or the host has not assigned the expected port.

Prepare every player’s client
- Have each player install the exact All the Mods 9 – No Frills release selected for the server.
- Verify that the client reports Minecraft 1.20.1 and the Forge loader expected by the server files.
- Do not add, remove or independently update mods. A player who installs regular ATM9 instead of No Frills is using a different pack, even if both packs contain similarly named mods.
- Give players the server’s address only after the server has reached its normal running state.
The server and client must agree on the pack’s mod set, versions and registries. “Missing mods,” “incompatible mod list” and registry-mismatch errors almost always warrant a side-by-side release check before any network troubleshooting.

Why the release label matters
The CurseForge files listing ties the client archive and server archive to a specific No Frills release. The 0.2 files are the currently listed example, but a later release may change its Forge loader, mods or configuration. Never infer that a new client can join an older server because both display Minecraft 1.20.1; the pack release itself is part of the compatibility contract.
A controlled update workflow
- Stop the server cleanly and make a full world backup, including configuration files that control server behavior.
- Copy the existing installation to a test directory rather than updating the only live copy.
- Download the new release’s matching Server-Files archive and the corresponding client profile.
- Start the test copy, review the log for loader or mod errors, and join with a client on the same release.
- Only after the test world loads and players can connect should you schedule the live update.
- Keep the old directory and backup until the new world has been used successfully. If the update damages the world or introduces a crash, stop the new copy and restore the previous one.
World compatibility is not guaranteed merely because the Minecraft version remains 1.20.1. Changes to world-generation or mod data can make a downgrade unsafe, which is why a backup and a separate test copy are essential.
Local hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Local computer | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront and recurring cost | Uses hardware and electricity you already own; no hosting subscription, but upgrades are your responsibility | Recurring plan cost; hardware maintenance is included in the service |
| RAM and CPU | Limited by your machine; reserve at least 6GB for the server and leave system headroom | Choose a plan that actually allocates 6GB or more and has adequate CPU performance |
| Backups and restore | You must schedule, store and test backups yourself | May include snapshots or automated backups; verify retention and downloadable restores before purchase |
| Java and Forge control | Full control over the executable, loader and files | Confirm custom Forge 1.20.1 files and Java selection are supported |
| Network exposure | You configure the firewall, router and changing public address | The provider supplies networking controls and an assigned address; protection options vary |
| Upgrade workflow | Manual backups, test copy and file replacement | Panels may simplify uploads and snapshots, but you still need to pin and test the exact release |
| Technical support | You diagnose Java, Forge, mod and hardware failures | Support may help with infrastructure; check whether modpack-level troubleshooting is included |
Neither method removes the need for release discipline. A managed panel cannot make mismatched clients compatible, and a powerful local machine cannot compensate for an incomplete archive.
Troubleshoot the problems that stop a server from working
The installer or launch script fails immediately
- Run
java -versionand compare it with the Java version the pack requires. - Inspect the script for a hard-coded Java path. A script that points to an uninstalled executable will fail even when another Java version works in a terminal.
- Check that the script is being run from the extracted server directory and that its libraries and configuration files are present.
- Re-extract a fresh Server-Files archive into a new directory if the log reports missing or unreadable files.
The server runs out of memory or pauses for long periods
- Read the log to distinguish a heap exhaustion error from a general performance stall.
- Increase the allocation within the physical limits of the machine or hosting plan, moving from the 6GB baseline toward 8–10GB when available.
- Reduce view distance and, where appropriate, simulation distance before experimenting with complex JVM flags.
- Check how many players are loading separate chunks and whether rapid exploration is forcing heavy world generation.
More memory is useful only when the host can supply it. If the operating system begins swapping, a larger configured heap can make pauses worse rather than better.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Missing mods” or registry-mismatch errors appear
- Compare the server’s release label with every player’s client profile.
- Confirm that all sides are using No Frills, not the regular All the Mods 9 pack.
- Remove any manually added, removed or updated mods and restore the files from the matching client and server archives.
- Verify the Minecraft and Forge versions shown by both installations.
The server reaches Done but friends cannot connect
- Test a local connection first to separate a server problem from an internet-routing problem.
- Check the operating system firewall and the router’s forwarding destination for a self-hosted machine.
- For a managed host, confirm that the assigned public address and port are the ones being shared.
- Check whether your internet service uses a network configuration that prevents inbound connections; if so, use the host’s public endpoint or an approved networking solution.
The pack itself does not provide a universal router procedure. Network steps must match your platform and provider.
The installation is corrupt or incomplete
Stop the server, preserve the log for reference, and extract a fresh copy of the exact Server-Files archive into a clean directory. Ensure every archive member was uploaded when using a managed host; transferring only the visible mods folder is insufficient. Restore the world from a backup only after the replacement installation starts normally.
Quick Recap
Operate the server safely after it works
- Stop the server cleanly before copying a world or replacing files.
- Keep at least one backup away from the live server machine or hosting account, and periodically verify that it can be restored.
- Record the No Frills release, Minecraft version, Forge loader and Java executable used by the working installation.
- Change one category at a time: pack update, server setting, memory allocation or network configuration. This preserves a useful cause-and-effect trail.
- Review logs after restarts and during periods of lag instead of deleting them immediately.
- Tell players when updates are planned and require everyone to update the client at the same time as the server.
Server setup checklist
- Selected one exact All the Mods 9 – No Frills release from the CurseForge Files tab.
- Downloaded its matching Server-Files archive rather than only the client zip.
- Extracted the complete archive into a clean server directory.
- Verified the Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge values supplied by that release.
- Confirmed the start script invokes the intended compatible Java executable.
- Allocated at least 6GB, with 8–10GB planned when hardware or the hosting plan permits.
- Accepted the EULA after the first launch and restarted the server.
- Waited for the normal Done state before attempting connections.
- Configured the local firewall, router forwarding or managed-host networking.
- Installed the identical No Frills release, Minecraft version and Forge loader on every client.
- Backed up the world before any update and tested updates on a copy.
