The current route lists seven named Trials of Aql, followed by the related Footsteps of the Fremen finale at Sietch Ta’lab. Some guides count that finale as an eighth trial. In order, the locations are Mihna Cavern, The Deep Struggle, Cave of the Lost Pilgrim, The Hollow Hammer, The Hidden Test, Devil’s Eye Cavern, The Red Maw, and Sietch Ta’lab. Use your in-game journey clue and map fragment as the final navigation check: guide directions are landmarks, not official coordinates.
All locations in order
This sequence follows Player Atlas’s walkthrough, updated September 28, 2026 and checked against Update 1.5.3.4. The final entry is labeled as the Footsteps of the Fremen finale here because sources disagree on whether it is an Aql Trial proper.

|---|---|---|---|
| First | Mihna Cavern | Hagga Basin South | A spice-dream clue marks a purple eye. Completing the cave trial unlocks Scavenger Stillsuit knowledge. |
| Second | The Deep Struggle | Eastern Vermillius Gap | Expect Static Compactor hazards; the Static Compactor is the reward. |
| Third | Cave of the Lost Pilgrim | Western Vermillius Gap | Reach and interact with the destroyed altar to progress. |
| Fourth | The Hollow Hammer | Eastern Vermillius Gap, inside the Hammer of Mirzabah | The long climb and combat are the main obstacles. |
| Fifth | The Hidden Test | Hagga Rift | Find enough elevation to survey; watch for quicksand and the Thumper sequence. |
| Sixth | Devil’s Eye Cavern | Jabal Eifrit Al-Sharq | Follow the clue north and east through the region, then reach the destroyed altar. |
| Seventh | The Red Maw | Hagga Rift | Descend into the rift and use Stilltents during the sandstorm sequence. |
| Finale | Sietch Ta’lab | Eastern Shield Wall | Orient to the entrance at ground level; the longer dungeon includes puzzles and combat. |
Player Atlas’s current route walkthrough provides the ordered list and obstacle notes. Its directions are third-party guidance, so confirm the matching journey clue and map fragment in your game before committing to a route.
Navigation advice for the difficult stages
Fourth: The Hollow Hammer
Allow for a substantial climb inside the Hammer of Mirzabah and be ready for combat. Older walkthroughs use a different name or placement for the fourth location, so prioritize the current journey marker and a current guide illustration over a remembered route.
#1 Best Overall
- For play with Dune: Imperium or Dune: Imperium - Uprising
- 86 new cards
- 9 new Leaders
Fifth: The Hidden Test
The key obstacle is getting high enough to survey the area. The current walkthrough also flags quicksand and a Thumper sequence; an older guide places this trial in the northeastern reaches of Hagga Rift.
Seventh: The Red Maw
Plan the descent into Hagga Rift carefully. Stilltents matter during the sandstorm sequence.

- 2-6 Players | Ages 8+ | 60+ Minute Play Time
Finale: Sietch Ta’lab
Look for the approach at ground level in the Eastern Shield Wall rather than relying on a high-level orientation alone. The finale is a longer dungeon with puzzles and combat.
What to do at the Third and Sixth stages
At both Cave of the Lost Pilgrim and Devil’s Eye Cavern, the current walkthrough identifies the destroyed altar as the progression point. Interact with it; do not keep searching for a separate spice challenge that the guide does not describe. The fan-maintained Dune Awakening Database quest entries also describe the First Trial’s purple-eye clue after a spice dream and the Sixth Trial clue pointing north and east through Jabal Eifrit Al-Sharq. Those entries report version 1.5.3.3 and a September 24, 2026 update; they are not publisher confirmation.

Why guides disagree about the route
Recent guides do not all use the same numbering or cave descriptions. The September 29, 2026 BLAST.tv guide assigns its own numbering and distinct placements to the Vermillius Gap caves. The older Method guide, published September 14, 2025, places the fourth trial in a large rock formation west of Anvil Tradepost. The newer Player Atlas walkthrough instead names the fourth The Hollow Hammer inside the Hammer of Mirzabah and says it was checked against Update 1.5.3.4. These are third-party reports, not official coordinate listings.
There is also a naming difference at the end: Method calls Sietch Ta’lab an eighth Trial, while BLAST.tv says it is not a Trial itself. Calling it the final related journey stage reflects that distinction without changing the route a player should follow.
Use map tools as a cross-check, not a substitute for the clue
The Dune Awakening Interactive Map says its 2026 guide covers 1,043 known locations across eight maps and was updated September 30, 2026. That is the map site’s overall coverage figure, not a count of trial caves; its guide does not enumerate these locations in text. Treat it as a navigation aid and verify the destination against the in-game journey clue and map fragment.
