Each rank increase granted 100 Effective Health and access to a Hero Cache; the Unstable Exotics were specifically tied to Rank S Hero Caches. Epic’s Season 3 announcement describes the cache route, and its Hero Rank explanation lists the rank-up activities and reward.

Epic also named Academy Tech Labs as an exclusive source during that season. The announcement says the Supernova Academy lab had rooms accessible according to Hero Rank, with goods available for Bars; it also said more labs would open later in the season. It does not specify prices for individual Unstable weapons or establish that every weapon could be purchased there.

What changed after Chapter 6 Season 3
Epic’s v36.20 ecosystem note later named two additions: the Unstable Thunderclap DMR and the Unstable Bounce Grenade. The grenade is an item, not a weapon. Epic’s brief note confirms the DMR’s addition but does not describe its effect or original acquisition route. A secondary record describes some DMR bullets as exploding on impact, but that is not an official effect description in the cited note.

Can you get Unstable Exotics in Fortnite now?
The available evidence does not verify a current Battle Royale route. The Chapter 6 Season 3 Hero Cache and Academy Tech Lab instructions belong to that season; they should not be treated as permanent. Epic’s Chapter 6 Season 4 announcement describes a different Exotic set available from O.X.R. Bunkers after reaching O.X.R. Rank A, showing that Exotic acquisition changed between seasons—not that the earlier Unstable route remained active.
As of the evidence dated October 4, 2026, the strongest later-season availability record is for Reload in Chapter 7 Season 4, and it is secondary and season-bounded. Check the current in-game loot pool and mode-specific information rather than relying on the old Season 3 route. Epic’s Chapter 6 Season 4 announcement documents the distinct O.X.R. route.
