The combinations below are specific to Reimagined; they are not interchangeable with vocation lists from the PSX or 3DS versions.
Beginner vocations
Reimagined has ten beginner vocations: Warrior, Martial Artist, Mage, Priest, Dancer, Thief, Troubadour, Sailor, Shepherd, and Jester. They become available through the story’s Alltrades Abbey sequence. Game8’s Dancer guide and Mage guide say these vocations are available after the party saves Jacqueline at Alltrades Abbey. To change vocation, speak to the priestess there or use a Career Sphere.
Advanced vocation requirements
Master each prerequisite vocation in a row to unlock the corresponding advanced vocation. The exact combinations below are reported by the February 6, 2026 vocation requirements guide.

How vocation progression and Moonlighting work
Vocation changes arrive as the story progresses. Later, the game unlocks Moonlighting, which lets a character use the skills, spells, and unique perks of both assigned vocations. Director Masato Yagi also says the two vocations’ attributes are combined. In a PlayStation Blog interview, Yagi explains: “Once your Beginner Vocations reach maximum proficiency, you’ll unlock Intermediate Vocations that you can also Moonlight.” He gives Warrior plus Martial Artist unlocking Gladiator as an example.
Planning a route to your target
These are route-planning implications of the listed requirements, not official developer recommendations:
Rank #2
- Hand-Crafted Aesthetic - The character designs, originally crafted by world-renowned manga artist Akira Toriyama, have been reimagined into a charming 3D art style using dolls actually created in the real world. Environments and dungeons are also brought to life with a unique hand-crafted, diorama-style aesthetic that vividly illustrates the beloved world of the DRAGON QUEST series Enhanced Story - While remaining faithful to the original story, the narrative of DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined has been enhanced to provide a more streamlined story experience. Alongside the main adventure, players can enjoy optional side quests, stories and minigames
- For Champion: plan to master Warrior, Martial Artist, and Priest to qualify for Gladiator and Paladin, then master both advanced vocations.
- For Druid: choose any two of Luminary, Pirate, and Sage, then master both. Their beginner prerequisites overlap: Thief feeds both Pirate and Monster Masher, while Mage and Priest each feed two advanced vocations.
- For Hero: select any three of the seven named advanced vocations and work through each of their beginner prerequisites. The route can vary depending on which three you choose.
Reimagined’s vocation list is version-specific
The Reimagined list includes six personal vocations, ten beginner vocations, seven advanced vocations, and three ultimate vocations. Personal vocations are tied to individual characters. The vocation list distinguishes Reimagined from the PSX and 3DS lists; older-version monster vocations are absent, while Monster Masher appears among Reimagined’s advanced vocations. Use the requirements above for Reimagined rather than assuming an older version’s chart applies.
