Valve says Steam Frame uses inside-out tracking and that it is not working on base-station support. The clearest software variation in the available documentation is a Linux port of OpenVR Space Calibrator—not a separate tool—and neither it nor the original is confirmed to work with Steam Frame.
What Steam Frame supports—and what it does not establish
Valve’s developer documentation describes Steam Frame as integrating inside-out tracking. SteamVR and OpenXR compatibility should not be read as native SteamVR Tracking support: using those runtimes does not, by itself, mean the headset can track base stations.
In a Steam Frame FAQ dated February 5, 2026, Valve answered a question about base-station support: “It’s not something we’re working on, but we built Steam Frame to be modular and extensible so that the community and 3rd parties can build out the features and accessories that are important to them.” The statement leaves open the possibility of community or third-party extensions, but it does not announce a specific accessory or software solution. What the documented calibration options actually are
Space Calibrator: the reference workflow
The Space Calibrator Steam listing describes calibrating mixed-vendor devices in SteamVR. Its standard workflow has the user move a controller and tracker together, including a figure-eight motion, to align their tracking spaces. It also documents continuous calibration using a tracker attached to the VR headset. The listing gives Quest and Pico as examples; it does not mention Steam Frame, so those examples are not evidence of Steam Frame compatibility. See the Space Calibrator listing.

The listing names Windows 10 and Windows 11 as supported operating systems and describes the software as free. Do not infer Linux support or Steam Frame support from that listing.
Stavdel’s Linux port: a platform variation, not an independent alternative
The Stavdel OpenVR Space Calibrator repository describes its software as a Linux port of OpenVR Space Calibrator. It documents a setup involving SteamVR and separately launched companion software, and lists ALVR, SteamVR, SteamVR Tracking and mixed VR setups. It does not specifically verify Steam Frame compatibility. Review the Linux port’s documentation.

The repository’s author says results depend on the hardware configuration and warns that wireless headsets using SteamVR Tracking devices may drift during extensive room-scale movement. The project describes continuous calibration as a possible mitigation. These are the project’s own cautions, not independently measured results.
Space Calibrator 2.0 open beta: a reported rewrite, not another tool
The Space Calibrator community page describes version 2.0 as an open beta rewrite intended to improve robustness and consistency. Its notes report improved calibration quality and error detection, Linux logging support, and base-station management when used with a supported BLE adapter. These are project-reported changes; they do not establish a separate alternative or a Steam Frame test. See the community page and beta notes.

How to choose based on your setup

If you are deciding what to try, first match the software to your host operating system and runtime. Then distinguish one-time alignment from continuous calibration: the latter is the documented option that uses a tracker mounted to the headset. A SteamVR-compatible tracker is therefore a relevant accessory category to investigate, but the sources do not confirm any specific tracker model for Steam Frame.
For Linux, the Stavdel port is the documented route in the sources reviewed, but it remains a port with configuration-dependent results rather than a confirmed Steam Frame solution. The repository also points Monado and WiVRn users toward MoToC; the available documentation does not establish MoToC as a Steam Frame fix.

What is still unknown
No source reviewed here confirms that Space Calibrator, its Linux port, or a named tracker model works with Steam Frame. Nor is there a controlled comparison of calibration accuracy among these options. Valve’s SteamVR Tracking licensing page gives a general tracking-rate range of 250 Hz to 1 kHz, but that is not a Steam Frame specification, a named tracker guarantee, or evidence that one calibration utility is more precise than another. Valve’s branding guidance treats “Lighthouse” as an informal nickname and recommends “SteamVR Tracking” for public-facing references. Read Valve’s branding guidance.
