Against a lemur, time a trick to avoid its grab, then use another trick to recover speed. These moves take practice; the lemur advice is a guide, not a guaranteed escape.
How to practice wall rides and jumps
Alto’s Odyssey is a standalone endless sandboarding game, so you do not need to play Alto’s Adventure first. Its terrain is procedurally generated, and wall-riding is one of its key skills. Apple’s App Store editorial notes that riding walls can help you gain height to collect coins, bounce from balloons, cross bridges, and avoid chasms.

- From the main menu, open Settings and replay the Sandboard tutorial. iMore says replaying it does not reset your progress.
- Practice grinding up a canyon wall, then jumping off and re-grinding another wall. The ride arcs downward, so jumping and catching another wall can help preserve height.
- Use the tutorial to get comfortable with the timing before relying on wall jumps during a difficult crossing.
Team Alto describes the game as a physics-based sandboarding journey with changing weather and lighting. Its press kit lists wall-riding, vines, hot-air balloons, and mischievous lemurs among the gameplay elements.

How to ride walls over chasms
As you approach a chasm, use the wall ride to climb and build an arc toward the opposite side. If the far edge begins higher than the side you left, a mid-ride jump can help maintain height long enough to reach it. Aim to land on the sand dunes rather than dropping toward the rocky bottom, as iMore’s guide advises.

- Account for the far edge: A higher landing point makes preserving your arc especially important.
- Prioritize a safe landing: Steer toward the dunes on the far side instead of the chasm’s rocky floor.
How to avoid lemurs and recover speed
When a lemur threatens to grab the board, iMore recommends timing a trick so the lemur misses, then performing another trick to regain speed. The timing matters: treat this as a technique to try, not a guaranteed way to evade every lemur.
What to do when a vine starts to give way
Vines can break after you ride them for a while. Pay attention to the game’s sound and haptic feedback as warning cues. If the vine starts to give way, jump to another grind or flip off rather than waiting for it to break beneath you.
