Amazon.ca’s Nintendo Switch 2 System listing says the console is sold by invitation: shoppers can request one, but Amazon says it cannot grant every request. If invited, you receive an email with a purchase link that remains valid for 22 hours. This applies to the Canadian listing; check your own Amazon marketplace because the same requirement has not been established for other countries.
How to request an invitation on Amazon.ca
-
Open Amazon.ca’s Nintendo Switch 2 System listing and check that its current terms still say the item is sold by invitation.

Nintendo Switch 2 System- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Amazon says it uses invitations to help genuine customers buy this high-demand item, but explicitly warns that it cannot grant all requests. A request is therefore not a reservation or a guarantee of a console.
Does Amazon require an invitation for Switch 2 everywhere?
The invitation terms described here are on Amazon.ca’s Canadian listing. They do not establish that shoppers need invitations on Amazon.com or any other national Amazon storefront. Open the product page for the country where you plan to buy and check its current purchase options; availability and invitation rules can change.

Nintendo announced the Switch 2 launch for June 5, 2025. Its launch announcement gave a US suggested retail price of $449.99, which is historical launch pricing rather than a current quote for Canada or any other market. Nintendo later reported more than 3.5 million units sold worldwide during the first four days after launch; that is Nintendo’s dated 2025 figure, not a current sales total.
