Amazon MGM Studios and EA/BioWare are developing a Mass Effect television series. In a November 7, 2025 update, BioWare executive producer Mike Gamble said the writers’ room was active and described the show as a new story set after the original trilogy—not a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story. No release date, cast, streaming platform, or filming schedule is confirmed in the available reporting.
Is the Mass Effect TV show still happening?
Yes. In its N7 Day 2025 update, published November 7, 2025, BioWare executive producer Mike Gamble said EA/BioWare had been working closely with Amazon and that the writers’ room was active. That is the latest direct project-status statement in the reporting available here.

Gamble also said the team had worked out how the series fits into Mass Effect canon and where it sits in relation to the next game. The update did not explain specific continuity rules or reveal plot details.
What will the series be about?
BioWare’s announced plan is a new story set after the original Mass Effect trilogy. Gamble wrote: “The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?”

That rules out a direct retelling of Shepard’s trilogy as the stated premise. It does not establish which characters will appear, what happened in any particular player’s ending, or how the series will handle the games’ branching choices.
Who is attached to the project?
Variety reported on November 7, 2024, that Daniel Casey was attached as writer and executive producer and named additional executive producers. Those are trade-reported attachments, not a complete or guaranteed-current crew list; BioWare’s 2025 update confirmed an active writers’ room but did not identify its participants.

What has not been confirmed?
The available official update and reporting do not establish a release date, cast, streaming platform, or filming schedule. Treat those details as unconfirmed unless EA, BioWare, or Amazon MGM announces them.
A separate April 20, 2026 report by PC Gamer covered Casey’s response to a disputed claim that scripts were being revised to appeal more to non-gamers. Casey said he did not know where the reported instruction came from and that no such request had been made to him. The underlying rewrite directive was not confirmed by EA, BioWare, or Amazon in the reporting available here.

Do you need to play the games first?
No viewing requirement has been announced, and the series is planned as a new post-trilogy story rather than a retelling. Readers who want to revisit the original games can find them in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, but BioWare has not said that playing the trilogy will be necessary to follow the show.
