The Amazon-exclusive Meta Quest 3S 128GB Cardboard Hero Gorilla Tag bundle was reported at $249 on July 11, 2025—$50 off its then-$299 price. That was described as an all-time low at the time, but there is no confirmation that the promotion or price is available on August 18, 2026. Treat it as a historical deal, not a live offer.
What the $249 Amazon bundle included
The deal was for the standard 128GB Meta Quest 3S packaged with the Cardboard Hero edition of Gorilla Tag. HotHardware reported the $249 price on July 11, 2025, and Amazon’s Prime Day 2025 deals page also listed the bundle at 17% off. The discount was $50 from the then-$299 price, or about 16.7%.
The reported digital extras were a Handiwork Helmet, Handiwork Armor, and 1,000 Shiny Rocks for Gorilla Tag. Gorilla Tag itself was free to play; those extras were game-related content, not a separate headset feature or a premium game included with the hardware. The bundle did not represent a distinct Quest 3S hardware revision.
HotHardware called $249 an all-time low, and Tom’s Guide later described $249 as the lowest price it had observed for the 128GB model during an October 2025 Prime Day promotion. Those are time- and coverage-specific price claims, not proof of the lowest price ever across every retailer, condition, coupon, or regional market. HotHardware’s July 2025 report and Tom’s Guide’s October 2025 coverage provide the historical context.

Is the deal still live?
Not according to any current confirmation available here. Amazon’s cited Prime Day event ended July 11, 2025, and its deal page warned that offers and availability could change. No source confirms that the $249 bundle remained on sale on August 18, 2026.
A later HotHardware report said Meta’s U.S. pricing was scheduled to rise on April 19, 2026, to $349.99 for the 128GB Quest 3S and $449.99 for the 256GB model. These are reported reference prices, not a verified Amazon checkout price today; check Meta’s Quest 3S product page and the live retailer listing for current regional pricing.

Before ordering, confirm the exact model and listing details rather than relying on an old headline:
- Storage capacity: 128GB or 256GB.
- Condition: new, used, or renewed.
- Exact bundle name and whether the Gorilla Tag extras or any other software are included and redeemable.
- “Sold by” and “Ships from” details, plus the return terms and delivery estimate.
- Final checkout price, including any coupon, membership requirement, shipping, and tax.
Promotional codes can expire, and similarly titled listings may have different storage capacities or bundle contents. Verify any subscription trial’s duration and eligibility on the specific listing; a trial is not permanent ownership of every game in a subscription catalog.

What the Quest 3S offers—and what it trades away
The Quest 3S is a standalone headset: it runs VR games without requiring a gaming PC or console, and supports full-color passthrough for mixed-reality experiences. HotHardware reported a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform, 8GB of RAM, 1,832 × 1,920 pixels per eye, Fresnel lenses, 72Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz refresh-rate options, and controller and hand tracking. See the reported Quest 3S specifications and Meta’s official product page for the current product information.
The processor platform is shared with the Quest 3 family, but that does not make the headsets visually or physically identical. The Quest 3S uses Fresnel lenses, while the Quest 3 uses pancake optics. Tom’s Guide describes the 3S’s smaller visual sweet spot, lower per-eye resolution, and narrower field of view relative to Quest 3; Fresnel optics can also produce more noticeable glare or “god rays” in some scenes. Buyers who value a sharper, more comfortable view should compare the Quest 3 before choosing on price alone.

- NEARLY 30% LEAP IN RESOLUTION — Experience every thrill in breathtaking detail with sharp graphics and stunning 4K+ Infinite Display.
- NO WIRES, MORE FUN — Break free from cords. Game, play and explore in immersive worlds — untethered and without limits.
- 2X GRAPHICAL PROCESSING POWER — Enjoy lightning-fast load times and next-gen graphics for smooth gaming powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.
- EXPERIENCE VIRTUAL REALITY — Blend virtual objects with your physical space and experience two worlds at once in your VR headset.
Battery life is another compromise. HotHardware and Tom’s Guide put typical or tested runtime at about 2.5 hours, but actual use varies with brightness, game, passthrough, Wi-Fi, and battery condition. The stock strap may also be uncomfortable for longer sessions. A replacement strap or battery strap can improve fit or extend playtime, but adds cost, weight, and another device to charge.
With 128GB, frequent players may need to uninstall games to make room; storage cannot be expanded after purchase. The 256GB Quest 3S is a more convenient capacity for a shared headset or a large game library, though it keeps the 3S’s Fresnel optics. The Quest 3 is the more appropriate upgrade for buyers who prioritize optics and storage over the lowest entry price.

Who should consider a Quest 3S?
- Good fit: First-time VR buyers, casual players, and people interested in social VR, fitness, or mixed-reality apps who want a wireless standalone headset.
- Consider 256GB: Households sharing one headset, frequent players, and anyone who does not want to manage installed games.
- Compare Quest 3: Image-quality enthusiasts and buyers who are sensitive to clarity, lens glare, or comfort trade-offs.
- Think twice: People expecting long uninterrupted sessions, PC VR users prioritizing a premium display, or anyone buying only for the Gorilla Tag promotional items.
For parents, account eligibility, age rules, and supervision requirements should be checked against Meta’s current guidance before purchase. Do not assume a headset or a particular game is appropriate for every child.
How to judge a current listing
Use $249 as a historical benchmark for the 128GB Gorilla Tag bundle, not as a promise of today’s pricing. A current offer above that level may still be reasonable, but compare what is actually included and the cost of any accessories you need. The 256GB bundle or Quest 3 may offer better value for a particular buyer even at a higher price.
Bundle value is personal: Gorilla Tag items matter most to players who want them, while a different listing may include a game or trial that better suits another buyer. For example, Tom’s Guide reported a 256GB bundle with Batman: Arkham Shadow and a three-month Meta Horizon+ trial during its October 2025 promotion. That promotion does not establish what any current listing includes.
For longer sessions, consider whether you will also want a more comfortable head strap, a battery strap, or a carrying case. If you intend to play PC VR, verify that your computer and connection meet the needs of the games you want; the headset’s standalone capability does not guarantee a good PC VR experience. These costs and requirements can change the value of an otherwise attractive headset discount.

The $249 Quest 3S bundle was a strong historical price for a new 128GB standalone headset, particularly for a first-time buyer who wanted the included Gorilla Tag content. But the promotion dates to July 11, 2025, and its current availability is unverified. Buy only after confirming the live price, condition, seller, storage, included content, and return terms. If the listing is no longer near that benchmark, compare the 256GB Quest 3S and the better-optics Quest 3 rather than treating the old deal as an active reason to order.
