XCOM 2 was the standout game—but this was a December 2025 giveaway
The Amazon Prime giveaway behind this headline was reported on December 23, 2025. Its biggest attraction was XCOM 2, the acclaimed turn-based strategy game in which you lead a resistance movement against an alien-controlled Earth. The promotion also highlighted LEGO 2K Drive, Fallout 2, and Gylt.
That offer should not be described as a live giveaway on August 12, 2026. Amazon’s Prime/Luna selection rotates, and a later roundup published on August 7, 2026 listed different games, including XCOM: Chimera Squad, Terraforming Mars, In Sound Mind, and Zoria: Age of Shattering. XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad are separate games.

Why XCOM 2 was the headline game
XCOM 2 is a demanding tactical strategy game built around three connected systems:
#1 Best Overall
- 【Plug and Play】: No need for any drivers, just a data cable connection, the computer will instantly turn into a game console, you can enjoy the joy of games anytime, anywhere.
- 【111000+ Games】: 84 game collections and simulators are pre-installed, 111000+ games including 5000+ 3D games are built-in. You can also add games yourself, which is very convenient.
- 【Batocera 33 System】: The latest Batocera 33 system is pre-installed, which can be directly read in the Windows system, which is convenient for adding and deleting games.
- 【Wide Compatibility】: The 500G HDD is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Win7-10/Mac OS 10.2, suitable for PC, Laptop, etc.
- 【USB 3.0 High-speed Transmission】: USB 3.0 interface, fast transmission, save more time, backward compatible with earlier versions such as USB2.0, this HDD hard drive supports 26 languages, English, French, German, etc.
- Turn-based combat: You command soldiers through missions where positioning, cover, line of sight, action points, and risk management determine whether a squad survives.
- Squad development: Soldiers gain abilities and can be customized, but a bad decision can permanently remove an experienced member of the team.
- Base management: Between missions, you research technology, build facilities, manufacture equipment, recruit troops, and decide how to respond to the expanding alien occupation.
The result is more than a sequence of battles. You are constantly balancing short-term objectives against the long-term survival of your resistance campaign. A mission can be won while still leaving your roster too injured, under-equipped, or inexperienced for the next operation.
The Prime giveaway version discussed in the December 2025 report did not include the War of the Chosen expansion. That distinction matters when comparing editions or looking for a retail copy. If you want to compare editions or find a physical or retail copy, search for XCOM 2 PC game; buying a copy was not required to claim the Prime offer.

The other games in the December 2025 offer
LEGO 2K Drive
LEGO 2K Drive is an open-world racing game focused on driving, exploration, and vehicle customization. Its appeal is broader and more casual than XCOM 2: you can move between different environments, race, and build or modify vehicles in a LEGO-styled world.
Fallout 2
Fallout 2 is the older isometric role-playing game, rather than one of the modern first- or third-person entries in the series. It emphasizes dialogue, exploration, character development, quests, and turn-based combat. New players should expect an old-school interface and presentation, but also a much more open-ended role-playing structure than the later games.
Gylt
Gylt is a stealth-survival-horror game that originally launched as a Google Stadia exclusive. Its gameplay centers on avoiding or confronting threats while exploring an unsettling environment, making it a very different experience from both the tactical combat of XCOM 2 and the racing of LEGO 2K Drive.

How Prime game claims work
Prime offers are not necessarily delivered through one universal launcher. Amazon’s instructions identify several possible delivery channels, including GOG, the Epic Games Store, Legacy Games, and the Amazon Games app. The exact launcher depends on the individual offer.
- Sign in with the Amazon account connected to your Prime membership.
- Open the available games or in-game-content offers.
- Select “Claim.”
- Follow the delivery instructions shown for that particular game.
- Link an external game account or launcher if Amazon requests it.
- Install the game through the specified storefront or application.
Some games are redeemed through an external service. Others require the Amazon Games app. If the Amazon Games app is specified, install it, sign in with your Prime credentials, open your library, and look in “Ready to Install” for the claimed title.
What happens if Prime expires?
The December 2025 report said that games claimed during an eligible Prime period remain in the user’s library after the membership ends. That does not mean an expired membership can be used to claim new offers. You need an active membership when you make the claim, and the claim must be completed before the applicable promotional window closes.
There is also an important difference between a claimed game and a conventional rotating-access subscription catalogue. A claimed title is associated with the relevant account or delivery platform; it is not simply borrowed while the subscription remains active in the way a typical catalogue-access service works. The precise redemption platform and account requirements still apply.

How to check whether an old giveaway is still available
Use this checklist before assuming that a headline describes a current deal:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Check the live Amazon Prime Gaming or Luna offers page.
- Look for the game’s current claim button and any stated expiry date.
- Confirm which launcher or storefront will deliver the game.
- Check whether you are signed in to the Prime account you actually use for gaming.
- Read whether the offer is a full game, downloadable content, an in-game item, or a trial.
- Confirm edition details, especially if an expansion such as War of the Chosen is not included.
If there is no claim button, the offer is not necessarily broken: it may have expired, may be unavailable in your region, or may require a different account or delivery step. Amazon’s catalogue and terms can vary by country, platform, and promotion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not confuse this offer with the later 2026 lineup
The later August 2026 roundup mentioned XCOM: Chimera Squad, not XCOM 2. Although both are turn-based strategy games in the XCOM universe, they are different releases with different campaigns, characters, and systems. The later selection also included Terraforming Mars, In Sound Mind, and Zoria: Age of Shattering.
That change illustrates why giveaway articles need an explicit date. The December 2025 story remains useful as a record of what Prime members could claim during that promotion, but it is not evidence that XCOM 2 is still claimable now.
Bottom line
XCOM 2 was the major attraction in Amazon’s December 23, 2025 Prime giveaway, alongside LEGO 2K Drive, Fallout 2, and Gylt. It offered the kind of deep tactical campaign that made the promotion notable, but the included copy did not contain War of the Chosen. Because Prime’s selection rotates and uses multiple delivery platforms, check Amazon’s current offer page before claiming—or assuming—the game is still available.

The accurate takeaway: XCOM 2 was part of a December 23, 2025 Amazon Prime giveaway, not a confirmed live August 2026 offer. Check Amazon’s current Prime/Luna catalogue for today’s selection, and do not confuse XCOM 2 with the later-listed XCOM: Chimera Squad.
