FSR 4 has reached some Vulkan games through an unofficial OptiScaler preview—not through an AMD-native Vulkan release. The reported method bridges the game’s Vulkan upscaler interface to DirectX 12, so it is a community workaround with per-game limits, not proof that AMD’s official FSR 4 pipeline supports Vulkan.
What changed: an OptiScaler preview bridges Vulkan to DirectX 12
Reports published February 23–26, 2026 described OptiScaler 0.9.0-pre10 as a way to use FSR 4 in games that render through Vulkan. Its changelog was reported as saying: “Added Vulkan w/Dx12 support – FSR4 VK w/Dx12, FSR 2.1 VK w/Dx12.” VideoCardz characterized the mode as Vulkan-to-DirectX 12 interop: the game’s upscaler interface is bridged so the FSR 4 backend runs over DX12. That is an interpretation of the reported compatibility route, not an AMD implementation. VideoCardz’s report cautioned that overhead and title-specific problems are plausible.
TechSpot called the preview the first publicly available method for using FSR 4 in Vulkan-only games and reported that it had not yet appeared in OptiScaler’s official GitHub release channel at the time. Those details describe the preview as reported then; build availability and instructions can change. TechSpot’s coverage provides the release context.
Which games were reported working?
TechSpot named Doom Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and No Man’s Sky as examples. They are not a guarantee that every Vulkan game—or every configuration of those games—will work. Compatibility depends on the title and the particular bridge implementation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The report also described an RX 6800 XT demonstration using an INT8 build. That is evidence of a reported community experiment, not AMD-supported compatibility for RX 6000 hardware. Do not treat it as a substitute for the official hardware requirements.
How this differs from AMD’s official FSR 4 support
AMD’s FSR 4 launch documentation specifies Radeon RX 9000 Series and above, Windows 10 or 11, and DirectX 12. The launch page identifies FSR 4 v4.0.2; that is the version shown on that page, not necessarily the latest version. AMD describes two ways to enable FSR 4: a game can integrate it natively, or AMD Software can upgrade eligible titles already integrating FSR 3.1 or later, subject to the documented conditions. For ML-based frame generation upgrades, AMD specifies FSR 3.1.4 or higher. AMD’s FSR 4 launch documentation covers the launch requirements, while AMD’s current FSR page describes current naming and enablement.

AMD’s broader current FSR branding uses “Redstone” for a suite of features. AMD says ML-based FSR Upscaling is available on RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics cards, with RX 6000 support planned for 2027; features and game availability depend on integration and supported products. This broader product-page language should not be confused with the narrower RX 9000-and-up launch requirements for FSR 4 described on the launch page.
VideoCardz reported that AMD’s September 2025 guidance limited the driver upgrade feature to DirectX 12 games with a signed FSR 3.1 DLL and that Vulkan FSR 3.1 titles were incompatible. That API-specific statement is VideoCardz’s account of AMD guidance, not a fresh direct quotation from AMD. The AMD pages cited above do not document a driver-based Vulkan upgrade route.

Official route vs. OptiScaler workaround
| Factor | AMD’s documented route | OptiScaler Vulkan bridge, as reported |
|---|---|---|
| API | DirectX 12 in the FSR 4 launch requirements; AMD Software upgrade guidance is for eligible integrations. | Vulkan title bridged to a DirectX 12 FSR 4 backend; not native Vulkan support. |
| Hardware | FSR 4 launch documentation specifies Radeon RX 9000 Series and above. | Reports included an RX 6800 XT INT8 demonstration, but that does not establish official support or universal hardware compatibility. |
| Game requirement | Native FSR 4 integration, or an eligible existing FSR 3.1-or-later integration for the AMD Software route; frame-generation upgrades have a higher stated version threshold. | Title-specific compatibility through the OptiScaler preview; named examples do not establish broad support. |
| Delivery and stability | AMD’s documented software and game-integration paths. | A preview reported outside the official GitHub release channel at the time; bridge overhead and game-specific issues are possible. |
| Online and anti-cheat use | Follow the game’s rules and the relevant AMD/game documentation. | OptiScaler documentation was reported to warn against online use because of anti-cheat risk; check current project instructions and the game’s policy. |
What to check before trying it
- Check the current OptiScaler project documentation and download channel. The preview’s reported distribution status is historical, and its availability or instructions may have changed.
- Confirm that the exact game and setup are supported by the current instructions. Reports of a few titles working are not a universal compatibility list.
- Read the game’s current anti-cheat and modification policy. Do not use the mod in online play if the project documentation or game policy warns against it.
- Follow the project’s current installation steps exactly. TechSpot described copying files into a game directory and, in some cases, changing batch scripts; those are reported examples, not instructions that apply to every title.
- If you want AMD’s supported route, check the game integration, GPU, operating system, API, and AMD Software requirements against AMD’s current documentation.
Did AMD announce official Vulkan support?
The AMD materials reviewed for this article do not announce an official Vulkan-ready FSR 4 driver path or a response to this specific OptiScaler build. That is a limit of the available public documentation as of October 4, 2026, not evidence of AMD’s internal plans or a promise that support will—or will not—arrive. The “over 60 games” figure AMD cited in 2025 referred to titles that could be upgraded from FSR 3.1 in an FSR 4 Technical Preview for Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards; it is not a count of Vulkan games supported by OptiScaler. AMD’s FSR Technical Preview release notes also invite users to submit feedback through the AMD Bug Report Tool.
