The AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE is no longer an upcoming, rumored graphics card: AMD lists it as an official desktop GPU, and global launch coverage reported availability beginning June 2, 2026. Its confirmed hardware points to a 1440p gaming card, but the value depends on current local pricing, the games you play and whether you need Nvidia’s software and productivity advantages.

What are the RX 9070 GRE’s confirmed specifications?

AMD’s product page lists the card’s core configuration and clock speeds. Launch coverage supplies the memory and power details not shown in that specification list.

Specification RX 9070 GRE
Compute units 48
Stream processors 3,072
Game frequency 2,220 MHz
Boost frequency Up to 2,790 MHz
Ray accelerators 48
AI accelerators 96
ROPs 96
Memory 12GB GDDR6
Memory interface 192-bit
Maximum memory bandwidth 432 GB/s
Board power 220W
Auxiliary power connectors Two 8-pin connectors

AMD’s official RX 9070 GRE product page lists the compute, clock, accelerator, ROP and connector figures. The 12GB GDDR6 configuration, 192-bit bus, bandwidth and 220W figure come from Tom’s Hardware’s global launch report.

Is the RX 9070 GRE good for 1440p gaming?

It is positioned primarily for 1440p, and the available tests suggest it can deliver strong results at that resolution. Those results are not interchangeable: each reflects a particular game selection, graphics settings and test system.

Independent benchmark results

In Tom’s Hardware’s 11-game raster test of an XFX Swift RX 9070 GRE, the card averaged 120 FPS at 1080p and 86.6 FPS at 1440p. The same report found it struggled to maintain a 60 FPS average at 4K. These are results from that review’s suite and setup, not a guarantee for every game or model.

Tom’s Hardware also reported that independent Chinese reviews put the card ahead of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB but behind the RTX 5070. Tom’s Guide’s June 2, 2026 review found strong results against those Nvidia cards in selected gaming tests, while reporting weaker Blender and AI performance than Nvidia alternatives. Taken together, these comparisons are useful context, not a universal ranking: performance changes with the game and workload.

AMD’s performance claims

AMD says its internal tests across more than 40 games at native 1440p showed up to 22% higher average performance than the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent benchmark; AMD notes that results can vary with system configuration, drivers, game and settings. AMD’s product page also publishes selected 1440p Ultra frame rates, but those figures should be read with their specific game and test conditions rather than treated as a general performance estimate.

How does it compare with nearby graphics cards?

The most relevant alternatives in the reviewed coverage are the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070, alongside AMD’s RX 9060 XT 16GB and RX 9070. Compare cards using tests for the games and applications you actually use, not just one average or a model’s position in a product stack.

  • 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
  • Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
  • Raster performance: Look for results at your target resolution across several games you play. The RX 9070 GRE’s 1440p results look promising in the cited reviews, but a single test suite cannot establish how it performs across your library.
  • Ray tracing: Compare ray-traced games directly. AMD’s product page advertises selected ray-tracing frame rates, but those figures are tied to particular games and settings; they do not establish a broad advantage over another card.
  • Upscaling and frame generation: Check which technologies are supported in your games. Tom’s Hardware says FSR 4 can improve performance in supported titles; support is not universal, so consider the games you want to play.
  • Memory capacity: The RX 9070 GRE has 12GB, while the RTX 5060 Ti comparison model cited in coverage has 16GB. Capacity is one part of the choice; compare performance and requirements in your games and workloads rather than assuming more memory alone means a faster card.
  • Power and compatibility: The RX 9070 GRE is rated at 220W and uses two 8-pin auxiliary connectors. Check that your power supply has the required connections and that your case can accommodate the specific board-partner card you are considering.
  • Creator and AI work: Tom’s Guide found weaker Blender and AI results for the GRE than for Nvidia cards in its tests, and noted Nvidia’s broader software-feature and game-support advantage. If those tasks matter, check compatibility and benchmarks in your actual applications before choosing.

What does the RX 9070 GRE cost now?

The reported global suggested price at launch was $549, with availability beginning June 2, 2026. That is a historical launch figure, not a current universal retail price. On July 11, Tom’s Hardware reported a Gigabyte model at Newegg for $499 after a promotional code; that offer may have expired. Check the exact card model, retailer, region, stock and offer terms before comparing prices.

At checkout, confirm that the listing is actually for an RX 9070 GRE and matches the advertised memory and board-partner model. Custom-card prices and availability can differ, and an expired promotion is not a reliable baseline for today’s value.

Who should consider the RX 9070 GRE?

It is worth considering if you want a 1440p-focused graphics card and find a specific model at a competitive current price. The 12GB of memory, 220W board-power rating and two 8-pin connectors give you concrete compatibility details to check before buying.

Compare it carefully with the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 if ray tracing, Nvidia-supported software, Blender or AI workloads matter to you. AMD’s and reviewers’ results point in different directions depending on the test, so use benchmarks for your target games and applications, then weigh them against the prices actually available in your region.
