AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.1.1 Optional Update added driver support for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH on Windows PCs with supported Radeon graphics. However, AMD also documented a possible black-screen problem in Spider-Man 2 and intermittent long-session crashes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Because 25.1.1 is a January 2025 release, it is now a historical driver rather than AMD’s current default recommendation. It made the most sense for players who needed launch-day support for either game and were prepared to troubleshoot if problems appeared.

What AMD 25.1.1 added
AMD listed both games under New Game Support in the official 25.1.1 release notes:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH
“New game support” should not be read as a guaranteed frame-rate increase or a fix for every problem. It generally refers to driver-level game recognition, profiles, launch support, and compatibility work. AMD did not publish universal FPS gains, benchmark percentages, or recommended settings for either title.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
It is also a graphics-driver release, not a patch for either game. Game updates, system requirements, shader compilation, graphics settings, and hardware capability remain separate factors.
Known issues to consider before installing
Spider-Man 2: possible partial black screen
AMD reported a possible partial black screen in the main menu when all of the following conditions apply:
- Radeon Anti-Lag 2 is enabled;
- ray tracing is enabled; and
- the PC uses an AMD Ryzen 7000-series or newer processor.
AMD’s listed workaround is to disable Radeon Anti-Lag 2. This is a conditional driver-and-settings issue, not evidence that the graphics card is failing.

You can then test ray tracing separately rather than disabling both features permanently. If the problem continues, general troubleshooting steps include resetting the game’s graphics configuration, testing without overlays, and comparing with the previous known-good driver. Those additional steps are not AMD’s specific documented workaround.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: intermittent long-session crashes
AMD’s release notes also list an intermittent application or system crash after playing FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH for long periods. That means the driver adds support while still acknowledging a stability problem.
Save frequently and test the game over a normal-length session before committing to a long playthrough. If crashes begin only after installing 25.1.1, compare the behavior with the previous driver and check the game’s own updates separately. Installing a new driver does not replace a game patch.
Other changes in the release
Beyond the two headline games, AMD listed:
- Performance improvements for Apex Legends when using DirectX 12.
- An improvement for lower-than-expected performance in LM Studio on AMD Ryzen AI and Radeon products.
The Apex Legends improvement should not be generalized to Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth; AMD provided no equivalent FPS claim for those games.
Supported Radeon hardware
AMD’s release notes list these desktop families:
- Radeon RX 7900, 7800, 7700 and 7600 series
- Radeon RX 6900, 6800, 6700 and 6600 series
- Radeon RX 6500 and 6400 series
- Radeon RX 5700, 5600, 5500 and 5300 series
For notebooks, AMD lists reference support for:
- Radeon RX 7900M, 7800M and 7600M
- Radeon RX 6800M, 6700M, 6600M, 6500M and 6300M
- Radeon RX 5700M, 5600M, 5500M and 5300M
This is not a universal “all Radeon cards” release. Older RX 500-series, Vega, and other products outside AMD’s listed families should not be assumed to support 25.1.1.

Laptop owners should be especially careful. AMD describes the notebook package as a reference graphics driver with limited support for system-vendor-specific features. Display switching, power management, hotkeys, sleep behavior, and mux controls may depend on drivers supplied by ASUS, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, or another laptop manufacturer. Check the manufacturer’s support page first if those features matter.
Operating-system and installation requirements
25.1.1 was intended for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 Radeon systems. The installer requires an administrator account or administrator rights. AMD also states that the package is not intended for Radeon products running through Apple Boot Camp.
Should you install AMD 25.1.1?
Install it if:
- You were launching Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on a listed Radeon GPU.
- The game recommended or required newer AMD driver support.
- You were troubleshooting launch, rendering, or performance problems on an older driver.
- You specifically wanted the driver profile or compatibility work associated with either release.
Staying on a known-good driver was reasonable if:
- Both games already worked correctly.
- System stability mattered more than launch-day support.
- You used a laptop with important OEM graphics features.
- You played Spider-Man 2 with ray tracing and Anti-Lag 2 on a Ryzen 7000-or-newer system.
- You were about to start a long Final Fantasy VII Rebirth session and could not tolerate intermittent crashes.
“Optional” does not automatically mean beta, unsafe, or unofficial. AMD labeled the package an optional update, but its release notes do not establish a universal technical definition for that label. In practical terms, install it when its newly listed support is useful; otherwise, retaining a stable driver is a defensible choice.

Some users reported that 25.1.1 did not immediately appear in the normal Adrenalin update interface or standard driver-selection pages. Those reports were anecdotal rather than a universal AMD distribution policy, but they made the release-notes page the more reliable place to look for the historical package.
Before installing, note your current driver version and create a restore point or otherwise ensure you can return to the previous driver. On a laptop, prefer the system manufacturer’s package when the generic AMD installer rejects the device or causes display, power, sleep, mux, or hotkey problems.
If the new driver causes trouble
- For the Spider-Man 2 menu black screen, disable Radeon Anti-Lag 2 first.
- Test ray tracing independently instead of changing several settings at once.
- For Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, save frequently and observe whether crashes appear during longer sessions.
- Disable overlays and reset graphics settings if rendering problems persist.
- Roll back to the previous known-good driver if 25.1.1 introduces instability.
Do not assume every crash or performance problem is caused by the driver. Compare game updates, system requirements, settings, overlays, thermals, and the behavior of the previous driver before drawing a conclusion.

What 25.1.1 did not promise
- It did not guarantee an FPS increase in either headline game.
- It did not fix every Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth issue.
- It did not support every Radeon product.
- It did not make unsupported hardware meet a game’s requirements.
- It did not replace patches released by the game developers.
AMD subsequently released newer Adrenalin versions, including releases documented in its 25.5.1 and 26.1.1 notes. Therefore, readers looking for a driver today should start with AMD’s current Radeon support page, not treat 25.1.1 as the latest recommendation.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: AMD 25.1.1 was most useful for Radeon players who needed launch support for Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It was not a universal install-now update: AMD documented a conditional Spider-Man 2 black-screen issue and intermittent long-session crashes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with no promised FPS increase for either game.
