There are two different things parents usually mean by “linking” an Epic Games account: approving a child’s Cabined Account, or connecting the child’s Epic account to a PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Apple, Google, Steam, or other platform account. You normally do not merge your adult Epic account with your child’s account.
Use the parental-consent process for permission and parental controls. Use Account settings → Linked Accounts to connect the child’s own platform account and sync progress.

First, identify what you need to link

These processes are related, but one does not automatically complete the others.
How to approve a child’s Epic Games account
Epic may place an account into a Cabined Account state when the player is under 13 or under the applicable age of digital consent in their country, whichever is higher. Until consent is completed, features such as purchases, voice or free-text chat, some external-account linking, and certain Store functions may be disabled. Restrictions vary by region, age, product, and applicable law. See Epic’s Verifiable Parental Consent FAQ.

- Find the email sent to the parent or guardian. Epic says its subject is “[Action Requested] Your Child’s Epic Games Account.”
- Select Continue in the email.
- Review and accept Epic’s Terms of Service and the applicable privacy permissions.
- Choose the available account limitations, including options for chat, content ratings, and connections.
- Complete adult verification using one of the methods offered in your region. Epic lists options such as a face scan, credit or debit card, and ID scan, but availability varies by country.
- If the child has only played through a console account, create or confirm the child’s Epic login credentials when prompted.
- Finish the process and confirm that the permissions and restrictions were applied.
When Epic displays a “Link an adult account” message during checkout, its guidance is to complete this consent process and configure purchase permissions rather than merge the two Epic accounts. See Epic’s purchase-error guidance.
If the parental-consent email is missing
Have the child resend the request from the account settings or Epic Account Portal. The new message goes to the guardian email address entered during the request.
- Check spam, junk, promotions, and quarantine folders.
- Confirm that the child entered the correct parent or guardian email address.
- Open the message in a browser where the appropriate Epic session is available.
- Resend the request from the child’s account rather than creating a second Epic account.
Do not create a replacement account unless Epic Support specifically tells you to. A new account may not contain the child’s existing game progress or purchases.

- Sign in to the child’s Epic account, or use the external account already linked to it.
- Select Parental Controls in the left-hand menu.
- Create and confirm a six-digit Parental Controls PIN.
- Choose the available chat, content, purchase, and connection restrictions.
Epic requires the PIN to change these settings later, so store it securely and do not use an obvious number. Epic’s current interface labels may change; if the route differs, open the Parental Controls section from the Epic Account Portal or Launcher. Epic’s setup instructions are available through its Epic Games Store parental-controls guide.
For children under 10, Epic’s current parental-consent guidance says the maximum voice-chat setting is Friends Only. This policy may vary by region or change over time.
If you mean linking Fortnite or console progress
Link the child’s platform profile to the Epic account that already contains the child’s progress. Do not use the parent’s PlayStation Network, Xbox, Nintendo, Apple, Google, or Steam account simply because the parent is performing the setup.
- Sign out of Epic in the browser if the wrong account is active.
- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games account.
- Open Account settings → Linked Accounts.
- Select Link beside PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Apple, Google, Steam, or the relevant supported service.
- Sign in using the child’s platform credentials.
- Approve the requested access.
- Return to Linked Accounts and confirm that the platform appears as connected.
For example, Epic’s documented Apple flow is to select Link under Apple, sign in to Apple, approve Epic’s access request, and confirm the successful link. The same principle applies to other platforms, although their screens and labels differ. See Epic’s Apple linking instructions.

Check that the correct Epic account contains the progress
Before linking or unlinking anything, record the child’s Epic display name and Account ID, the platform username, and which account contains the Fortnite, Rocket League, or Fall Guys progress.
For console players, compare the Account ID shown on Epic’s website with the Account ID shown in the game. They must match. A console can create or use an Epic account automatically when a player first launches a game and skips the linking process, so the account currently open in your browser may not be the account used by the game.
If different platforms contain different progress, Epic’s guidance requires you to decide which progress to keep; it cannot simply be combined by linking the accounts. Check the account carefully before making changes. See Epic’s PlayStation progress and account-linking guidance.

“This platform account was previously connected”
This usually means the same platform type was already linked to that Epic account. Epic’s documented choices are to relink the original platform account or use its restriction-removal process to replace the link. The replacement process may allow a new account link only once every 365 days, and you need access to the email registered to the Epic account. Do not unlink accounts casually. Epic warns that unlinking can also stop new monthly Fortnite Crew content from being granted to the Epic account. See its previously connected platform-account guidance.

The Cabined Account blocks external linking
Some Cabined Account restrictions affect Sign in with Epic and external-account linking. Complete parental consent first, then try the Linked Accounts procedure again.
The child’s progress disappeared
Stop unlinking and relinking accounts. Sign out, identify the Epic Account ID currently used by the game, and compare it with the account you intended to link. If the platform was attached to an automatically created Epic account, Epic Support may be needed to determine which account owns the progress.
A purchase is still blocked
Confirm that the consent workflow is complete and that purchase permissions allow the transaction. Also identify where the purchase is being made:
- Epic Games Store: Epic’s parental controls and account permissions apply.
- PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam, or mobile billing: the platform’s family and purchase controls also apply.
Epic controls do not necessarily control purchases made through a console or mobile store. Regional age restrictions may still prevent access even after parental consent.
What parents should not do
- Do not merge your adult Epic account with the child’s account; parental permission is not account merging.
- Do not link your own platform profile to the child’s Epic account.
- Do not create a new Epic account before checking where the child’s existing progress is stored.
- Do not unlink an account merely as a troubleshooting experiment.
- Do not assume Epic’s controls govern purchases made through every console, mobile, or PC storefront.
- Do not share passwords unnecessarily. Use Epic’s official consent email and account-recovery process, and keep the parental PIN private.
When to contact Epic Support
Contact Epic Support if you cannot access the registered email, an unknown platform account is linked, progress has disappeared, the account may be compromised, the child’s age or consent status is incorrect, or the 365-day unlink/relink restriction is involved. Include the child’s Epic display name, Account ID, platform username, and relevant error message, but do not send your password or parental PIN.
