ANANTA is a free-to-play urban open-world RPG set in Nova City, and its city-scale premise and previewed movement invite comparisons to GTA and Spider-Man. The Wii Sports comparison is less established: the official materials reviewed do not confirm a sports or party-game mode. NetEase has announced PC, PlayStation 5 and mobile platforms, and the official site currently advertises a global release date of January 15, 2027.
What is ANANTA?
NetEase describes ANANTA as a free-to-play urban open-world RPG set in Nova City, where players can take on the roles of a variety of characters. The game was previously known by the codename Project Mugen, as NetEase noted in its December 5, 2024 announcement. The publisher’s September 22, 2025 announcement confirmed the RPG description, setting and platforms.
That makes “GTA + Spider-Man + Wii Sports” a shorthand for the different ideas the game evokes, not its official genre or a confirmed feature list. NetEase’s official description calls it an urban open-world RPG; it does not identify ANANTA as a GTA or Spider-Man game.
When does ANANTA release, and what platforms are confirmed?
The ANANTA official site currently advertises a global release on January 15, 2027. Treat that as the currently listed date rather than a guarantee: release schedules can change, so check the official ANANTA site for the latest status.

How far do the GTA and Spider-Man comparisons go?
City freedom: the GTA comparison
The comparison makes sense at the broadest level: ANANTA is presented as an open-world RPG set in a city. NetEase describes Nova City and a high-freedom urban setting, but the official materials do not establish that its activities, missions or overall structure work like GTA. A city setting alone does not make the games equivalent.

Movement: the Spider-Man comparison
GamesRadar’s report from trying the first public playable build at Tokyo Game Show 2025 offers hands-on context about traversal and action. Those are the publication’s impressions of that build, not a publisher guarantee that every mechanic shown or experienced will be in the final release. The preview helps explain why players may see a Spider-Man-like movement comparison; it does not establish that ANANTA shares Spider-Man’s specific abilities or design.
Characters and action
NetEase says players can play as a variety of characters. That supports expecting a cast of playable characters, but the announcement does not give a complete roster or spell out how characters differ in combat. Details described in preview coverage should be understood in the context of the public build rather than treated as a final, comprehensive feature list.

Is there really a Wii Sports-style mode?
Not one confirmed by the official materials reviewed. They do not announce a collection of sports minigames or a Wii Sports-style party mode. The headline comparison may suggest a game with varied activities, but that is an expectation rather than an established feature. Look for an official mode announcement before assuming sports are part of the game.
What is known about ANANTA’s free-to-play model?
NetEase confirms that ANANTA is free-to-play, but its reviewed official announcements do not explain the full monetization model. They do not establish whether the game will include character gacha, cosmetics, a battle pass or another particular purchase system, so those specifics remain unknown.
What to watch for next
The clearest confirmed picture is a free-to-play urban open-world RPG in Nova City, planned for PC, PS5 and mobile, with the official site currently listing January 15, 2027 as its global release date. The exact scope of its activities, traversal, combat, sports-style modes and monetization depends on further official details. The official site also hosts gameplay videos and trailers for a look at what has been shown.
