Talk to the upset villager and keep speaking until the game asks you to respond, then choose the answer that shows you understand their position. How to calm villagers who are already arguing
- Approach an upset villager and press A to talk.
- Continue through the conversation. The dialogue may repeat before the villager asks whether you understand their position.

- Check the other villager. If they remain upset, speak to them and choose an understanding response as well. One may have calmed down while you were talking to the other.
Can you let the argument end on its own?
Yes. If you do nothing, the villagers eventually calm down, according to iMore. It does not give a precise timeframe, so there is no reliable number of minutes or in-game days to promise. Waiting requires no effort; talking to the villagers is the active option with a described calming outcome.

What if you notice them talking before they argue?
If you catch the villagers talking before the disagreement escalates, you may be able to split them up. This is described as a possibility, not a guaranteed way to prevent an argument. If you find them already upset, use the conversation steps above or leave them to settle down.
Why do villagers fight, and will it affect your island?
Arguments are commonly attributed to conflicting personality types, but the cause may not be clear if you only encounter the villagers after they are upset. The available guidance does not establish that intervening changes a villager’s personality, guarantees future harmony, or causes either villager to move away.

Can Isabelle resolve the dispute?
Nintendo’s documented resident discussion options for Isabelle cover matters such as resetting a resident’s catchphrase or removing custom clothing designs, not settling arguments. Resetting a catchphrase makes the resident return to their original one, as described in Nintendo Support’s instructions. Those options are separate from the argument conversation.
