GameSpot reported on November 9 that Respawn had not acknowledged the issue at that time. A podcast description later said a small patch removed it, but the available sources do not establish a direct Respawn statement about this specific glitch.
What the Season 15 Heirloom glitch did
Players reportedly could open a Legend’s loadout page shortly after logging in and see an option to equip that Legend’s Heirloom even if the account had not unlocked it. GameSpot described an equip option, not a verified purchase or permanent addition to an account’s collection. The report also said Prestige Skins might be affected, but did not confirm that possibility. GameSpot’s November 9, 2022 report characterized Heirlooms as cosmetics with no gameplay effect.

GameSpot said players had reported the issue on PC and that it was unclear whether the glitch was limited to a particular platform. Its suggestion that the timing might be related to a 2.10 update was speculation, not a confirmed cause. No verified count of affected players is established: a “hundreds of thousands” figure repeated by Charlie INTEL was attributed to a player, not a measured statistic. Charlie INTEL’s report does not make that number an official tally.
Did Respawn acknowledge it or fix it?
On November 9, GameSpot reporter Claire Lewis wrote that the bug “has yet to be acknowledged by Respawn.” That was the reporter’s description of the situation, not a statement from Respawn. The sources available do not establish a direct, incident-specific public acknowledgment from Respawn.

A November 16, 2022 episode description from Mash Those Buttons says a small patch got rid of the glitch. That is secondary reporting of a fix; it does not identify a primary Respawn patch note explicitly naming this exploit. The sources also do not establish how many players were affected, whether every temporary equip was removed, or whether any account faced enforcement.
How this differed from normal Heirloom Shard rewards
The reported glitch concerned an equip option for content an account did not own. It was separate from the normal process for obtaining Heirloom cosmetics through Heirloom Shards. Under EA’s current Apex Legends FAQ, an eligible Apex Pack has a 0.045% chance of dropping Heirloom Shards. The FAQ also describes a guarantee after 500 eligible packs, subject to ownership and shard-balance conditions: the guarantee does not apply if a player already owns all eligible Base Mythic cosmetics or has enough shards to obtain any unowned item.

EA excludes Collection Event, Thematic Event, Milestone Event, Collection Retro, and replacement-item packs from the bonus counter. These are the FAQ’s current rules and may change; they explain the ordinary reward system, not the 2022 glitch. Historically, EA’s 2020 System Override patch notes explained that shards replaced direct Heirloom-set drops, let players choose a set, and carried existing progress toward the 500-pack threshold forward.
