Is Apex Legends 2.0 Planned by EA? What We Know About Its Timing

EA described a future major Apex Legends update as “Apex 2.0,” but has not announced a release date, standalone sequel, or final feature list.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson described a future major update to Apex Legends as “an Apex 2.0,” and said EA’s thinking at the time placed it after a Battlefield launch. That was an informal description and a statement of intent—not an announcement of a standalone sequel, a release date, or a confirmed feature list. EA’s later public roadmap does not identify a release called Apex 2.0.

What EA actually said about Apex 2.0

In remarks reported by PC Gamer, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company believed Apex would need a “more meaningful update” to its “broad game experience.” He added that EA probably would not launch it on top of Battlefield and that its thinking at the time put the update “post-Battlefield.” Wilson used “an Apex 2.0” as shorthand for a larger future change, and said it would not be the game’s final incarnation.

Those remarks establish EA’s intention to make a more substantial change and its reported sequencing preference. They do not establish that EA formally announced a product named Apex Legends 2.0. Wilson did not give a release date, specify whether the work would arrive as one launch or a series of updates, or publish a definitive feature list.

Is Apex Legends 2.0 a sequel or a major update?

The available wording points to a major update to the existing game experience, not a confirmed standalone sequel. Wilson spoke about a more meaningful update to Apex as a broad game experience. The cited remarks do not announce a separate game, a new title, or a replacement for the current Apex Legends.

  • EXPANDS GAMEPLAY OPTIONS: Perfect for solo players or those looking for a cooperative experience, this expansion enhances Apex Legends: The Board Game with new ways to play and enjoy the game.

Because EA has not publicly defined a final format in the cited material, it would be premature to treat “Apex 2.0” as either a conventional sequel or a specific overhaul package. The phrase is best understood as Wilson’s informal label for a future, larger-scale evolution of Apex.

When is Apex 2.0 coming out?

No release date or year is established in the reported remarks or EA’s later roadmap. “Post-Battlefield” described EA’s thinking when Wilson made those comments; it was not a dated launch window.

Battlefield 6’s launch had taken place by EA’s Q3 FY26 results release, dated February 3, 2026. EA called it a “landmark launch” in that release. That confirms the Battlefield launch context has moved on, but does not show that the particular Apex update Wilson described has shipped or reveal its current status. See EA’s Q3 FY26 results.

What EA’s 2026 Apex roadmap does—and does not—confirm

EA’s February 12, 2026 roadmap describes continued development of the live game, including planned new Legends, Legend reworks, a Legend Class overhaul, Wildcard events, map work, a looting overhaul, and quality-of-life, audio, matchmaking, server, and anti-cheat work. It does not label any item “Apex 2.0” or connect these changes to Wilson’s earlier phrase.

EA says roadmap items marked “Planned” are in preproduction, with work expected to start soon, and cautions that development timelines can shift. The roadmap therefore documents ongoing seasonal work, but it is not a release announcement or confirmation of Apex 2.0’s scope.

What EA’s anti-cheat figures say about ongoing work

The roadmap also reports EA’s anti-cheat figures, which describe its account of work during 2025. EA says its systems prevented about 50,000 cheats per day and removed more than 86.6 million RP from cheaters that year. The company reports that PC ranked-match infection was about 33% lower in 2025 than in 2024, teaming-detection bans increased 300%, and bot bans fell 38% over the same comparison.

EA also reports that reports per user fell 62% for teaming and 58% for botting, and 22% overall, comparing 2025 with 2024. EA says the reports-per-user figures aggregate PC and console. These are EA-published metrics, not independent measurements; they provide context for ongoing live-service work, not evidence that Apex 2.0 is finished, imminent, or responsible for the changes.

What to watch for next

A definitive answer about launch timing or format would require a specific update from EA that names Apex 2.0 or clearly connects a dated announcement to Wilson’s planned broad-game update. Until then, the clearest public account remains: EA intended a larger evolution of Apex, expected it after a Battlefield launch, and has not established a date or final scope in the sources cited here.
