Apex Legends Season 22, Shockwave, ran from August 6 to November 4, 2024. Its headline additions were the E-District map, Revival in Trios, Bot Royale, Akimbo pistols, and new Battle Sense information. What was Apex Legends Season 22?
Electronic Arts named Season 22 Shockwave. EA Help’s season archive lists its dates as August 6–November 4, 2024. EA’s Shockwave patch notes document its gameplay and balance changes, while the season feature overview introduces its major additions. Later seasons have superseded Shockwave’s rotations and balance.

What were the headline features?
- E-District: A new map designed around dense buildings, verticality, varied landscapes and varied fights and end-ring locations.
- Revival: A Trios respawn mechanic that let eliminated teammates return automatically while a squadmate remained alive.
- Bot Royale: A practice mode against bot squads, separate from Pubs and Ranked.
- Akimbo pistols: Players could pair two P2020s or two Mozambiques.
- Battle Sense: Temporary enemy health bars and red highlights provided more information during combat.
How did Revival and Bot Royale work?
Revival in Trios
When a player was eliminated, they automatically respawned on a timer if at least one teammate was still alive. The system did not require a banner or respawn beacon, and it remained available until the fourth ring. The timer grew longer with each death and as rounds progressed; dealing damage, downing enemies and eliminating enemies could shorten it. EA said Revival launched in public Trios on August 6, 2024, with Straight Shot Revival due to follow during the first event.
Bot Royale practice
Bot Royale was presented as practice outside Pubs and Ranked. Players could enter alone with bot squadmates or bring a fully human squad. The lobby description specified eight enemy bot squads.

E-District joined the launch map list for Pubs and Ranked alongside Broken Moon and Storm Point for the first half of the season. At launch, it was featured in Pubs for one week and in Ranked for the first 72 hours. These are Shockwave launch-period details, not a description of present-day map availability.

How did Akimbo work?
Akimbo paired two matching pistols: either two P2020s or two Mozambiques. Mixing the two weapon types was not allowed. Finding and interacting with a second matching pistol put the weapons into Akimbo mode.
- The paired pistols fired automatically at a higher rate.
- Attachments mirrored between the weapons, and optics were disabled.
- Magazine capacity doubled, but reloads took longer.
- Players could toggle back to a single weapon to use its optic again.
What information did Battle Sense add?
While dealing damage, players could see temporary enemy health bars and red highlights, provided they had line of sight. The highlights did not reveal enemies through walls or smoke. The patch notes also said these indicators could be toggled in Settings. Other launch interface changes included more informative low-ammo prompts and compatibility information when looking at ammunition.

What changed for Controller and Recon Legends?
Controller: Zone Overcharge and tactical pickup
Controller Legends gained Zone Overcharge, which added 25 shield capacity while the player was in the ring. The extra capacity was lost after leaving the zone, with a five-second delay. Controllers could also remotely recover undamaged tactical equipment.
Recon: threat vision and Survey Beacons
Recon Legends gained ADS Threat Vision, which highlighted visible enemies within the scope’s or ability’s range. It did not work through walls or smoke.

Survey Beacons were revised: their use time was about 3 seconds rather than about 7.5, and their range was about 500 meters instead of a full-map scan. Every beacon was enabled on every map rather than being randomly distributed. Using one awarded 75 EVO instead of 200. Each scan pulsed three times over 15 seconds, with each pulse capturing enemies for five seconds.

Weapon and EVO changes
The EVA-8 returned to floor loot, and its damage increased to 7 from 6. The R-99 moved into the Care Package; its damage was 14 at close range and fell to 10 at 11 meters and beyond. The first-wave EVO Cache spawn rate increased to 100% from 50%.

Aim assist and Aim Flinch
EA reduced aim-assist strength in specified controller-to-PC-lobby situations: by 18% for console crossplay into PC lobbies, by 22% for console performance mode crossplay into PC lobbies, and by 25% for controllers on PC. EA said console lobbies were unaffected. The patch notes’ developer note said aim assist would not be removed, describing it as an accessibility feature.

Loot-bin progression
Around the middle of a match, loot bins began closing and rerolling with a higher chance of high-tier and rare loot. Some could become Legendary bins, offering smart loot selected as relevant squad upgrades. One marked Mythic bin spawned with a random Care Package weapon, gold versions of weapons the squad was using when it opened the bin, supplies, grenades and a large EVO bonus. Purple and Gold attachment spawn rates were reduced by about 50%.
What were the Season 22 Battle Pass terms?
Shockwave’s patch notes described a 60-level Battle Pass with different terms for its two splits. During Split 1, the Premium Pass could be unlocked by completing challenges. Examples included playing two Trios matches on a specified map, dealing damage as Recon or Controller, opening Supply Bins, dealing damage with a specified weapon, and completing ten pass levels. For Split 2, which began September 17, 2024, the notes described purchasing the pass for 950 Apex Coins. These were time-limited 2024 terms, not a current offer.
