Start by identifying your platform, launcher, and the exact point where Apex Legends stops. On PC, check whether Steam is finishing an update, whether the EA app is stuck on “preparing,” or whether an anti-cheat error code appears; on console, use the code shown in the game’s error guide. The right fix depends on that symptom—not every launch failure calls for reinstalling the game.
First, identify where launch is failing
Note your platform—Windows PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch—and, on PC, whether you start Apex through Steam or the EA app. Record the exact error code and what happens: an update indicator appears, the launcher remains on “preparing,” anti-cheat fails, the game opens and closes, or nothing happens. EA’s Apex Legends error-code guide maps codes to different causes and steps. Apex is available on PC through EA app and Steam, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch; Steam play requires an EA Account, according to EA’s Apex Legends FAQ.
Rule out an update, account, or service issue
Steam shows a download bar
If Steam displays a download progress bar on Apex’s launch screen, EA says Steam is updating the game in the background. Wait for the download to finish before repairing files or reinstalling.
Error 110 or error 100
EA describes error 110 as usually a temporary general account issue: restart the game, then check server status if it persists. Error 100 points to a possible mismatch between the EA Account and platform account time zone or date of birth. These are account or service checks, not instructions to repair game files. See EA’s error-code guide for the applicable steps.

On PC, use current anti-cheat guidance
EA says Apex switched its PC anti-cheat to EA Javelin Anticheat effective September 29, 2026. EA also says Apex does not currently require players to enable Secure Boot in BIOS for this transition. Use EA’s current Javelin Anticheat troubleshooting instructions rather than treating older Easy Anti-Cheat directions as universal.
Start with the displayed anti-cheat code
EA says common Javelin errors often involve corrupted game files or conflicting background software. Restart the game first, then follow the instructions for the specific code shown. For Error #41 on Windows 11 Insider Preview, EA says the build may lack the renewed Windows Insider certificate; its prescribed step is to install the latest available Insider Preview update and restart. Error #701, which appears after anti-cheat cannot start, is associated with a likely Windows file-system issue and has a specific transaction-log reset procedure on EA’s page. Do not apply either code-specific remedy to an unrelated failure.

Error 30005
EA’s Apex error guide describes 30005 as anti-cheat failing to launch and recommends repairing the game files in the EA app or Steam. Since Apex’s PC anti-cheat has transitioned to Javelin, consult EA’s current anti-cheat instructions before considering older Easy Anti-Cheat file-removal advice; do not treat that legacy step as a general fix. See EA’s Apex error-code guide and Javelin guidance.
If the EA app is stuck or the game closes
Test the in-game overlay
For a PC game that will not launch or crashes, EA recommends temporarily turning off the EA app in-game overlay to see whether it is involved. If the game launches, you can turn the overlay back on; EA notes it supports features such as invites and messages. Follow the steps in EA’s EA app loading guide.

“Preparing” does not finish
For a game stuck on “preparing,” EA lists clearing the EA app cache, closing background apps that may limit app performance, checking Windows and GPU updates and drivers, and trying a clean boot. These are diagnostic options for that loading symptom, not guaranteed fixes for every Apex failure. Steam also provides general steps for games that do not run after “Preparing to Launch” in its launch troubleshooting guide.
Use EA app error-code fixes only when the code matches
Some EA app installer errors are associated with missing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables; EA directs users to obtain missing packages from Microsoft’s official site. For communication error EC:10701, EA says the app may be affected by its use of port 3216 and recommends restarting first, then checking for interference from network adapters or a VPN. Error EC:10005 points to a possible home-network or internet problem; if connection troubleshooting does not help, check for an EA service outage. These are EA app error branches, not blanket Apex launch fixes. Use EA’s EA app error-code guide for the matching code.

For console launch failures
Do not apply PC anti-cheat or EA app instructions to a console. Find the exact code in EA’s Apex error-code guide and follow its platform-specific direction. EA’s FAQ says to contact EA for PC or game-related problems, Microsoft for Xbox-related problems, or Sony for PlayStation-related problems if its support steps do not resolve the issue. See the Apex Legends FAQ for support routing.
Choose the next step by symptom
| What you see | Next step |
|---|---|
| Steam launch screen has a download progress bar | Wait for the background update to complete. |
| EA app is stuck on “preparing” | Try the EA app cache, background-app, Windows/GPU update and driver, or clean-boot checks. |
| Anti-cheat error or code 30005 | Use current Javelin guidance and the matching Apex error-code instructions; for 30005, repair game files through the launcher. |
| Error 110 or 100 | Check the account or service issue described for that code rather than assuming corrupted files. |
| Console failure | Use the code’s console-specific direction; contact the relevant platform support if EA’s help does not resolve it. |
Begin with reversible checks—restart, finish any update, inspect the error code, and use launcher repair or verification where EA recommends it. Reserve operating-system changes for the exact error they address.
