“The program can’t start because appregagent.dll is missing from your computer” usually means an older InterVideo, WinDVD, DVD-authoring, Mobile TV, or OEM multimedia application is damaged or partly removed. appregagent.dll is not a normal Windows component, so reinstalling the program that originally installed it is safer than downloading the DLL separately.
Which fix applies to you
Use the first description that matches what you see:

- The error appears when launching WinDVD or another multimedia program: repair or reinstall that program.
- The error appears immediately after signing in: check Startup folders, Task Scheduler, and leftover shortcuts for an old InterVideo or WinDVD entry.
- Windows Security recently quarantined the file: inspect Protection history, but prefer reinstalling the parent application.
- You deleted the file manually or used cleanup software: reinstall the application that used it.
- The application was uninstalled but the error remains: remove its stale startup entry or scheduled task.
- The message says “The specified module could not be found”: the DLL may exist while one of its dependencies is missing.
- The program shows error
0xc000007bor says it is not designed to run on Windows: suspect an architecture or dependency mismatch and use the complete installer. - You cannot identify the caller: use the full error dialog, shortcut properties, Task Manager, Event Viewer, and installed-program list before changing anything.
Do not begin by copying appregagent.dll into System32 or SysWOW64. Those folders are not general-purpose repair locations.
What is appregagent.dll
appregagent.dll is identified as AppRegAgent Module, associated with InterVideo. It is a private application DLL used by legacy multimedia software rather than a file supplied by Windows, DirectX, .NET, or the Visual C++ redistributable.

- InterVideo Mobile TV
- Related OEM multimedia installations
The file is commonly found inside the program’s own directory or an InterVideo common-files directory. A 32-bit application may use a 32-bit copy even when Windows itself is 64-bit. That copy normally belongs beside the application, potentially under C:Program Files (x86), not automatically in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Reported messages include “appregagent.dll was not found,” “cannot find appregagent.dll,” “error loading appregagent.dll,” and “the file appregagent.dll is missing or corrupted.” These are reported variants, not a complete official list.

Check the error dialog
Look at the title bar and surrounding text. The application name may appear above the missing-file message. If the dialog appears while opening a DVD player, media utility, or OEM control panel, that program is the most likely source.
If the error appears at login, note whether the dialog names an executable. Write down that filename before closing it.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the shortcut that triggers the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
- Look for an InterVideo, WinDVD, DVD, TV, or OEM multimedia path.
- Open that folder in File Explorer if it still exists.
If the target points to a missing executable, the application may already be partially uninstalled. Remove the broken shortcut or reinstall the complete application.
Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for InterVideo, WinDVD, DVD, Mobile TV, or the computer manufacturer’s media software.
- Select the three-dot menu beside a matching program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Use Repair first.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the suspected program.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair, depending on what Windows displays.
Classic desktop installers may instead use Control Panel:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Windowsand type Control Panel. - Open Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the suspected application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall.
Check Task Manager startup entries
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc. - Select Startup apps on Windows 11, or the Startup tab on Windows 10.
- Look for InterVideo, WinDVD, DVD utilities, Mobile TV software, or an entry marked Unknown.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Open file location if available.
- Disable it temporarily, then restart Windows.
Disabling a startup entry does not repair the application, but it confirms whether the error is being triggered during login.
Check Event Viewer
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter
eventvwr.mscand press Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Select an error recorded at the time the message appeared.
- Read the General tab for the application name and faulting path.
Event Viewer may not identify the missing DLL directly, but it can reveal which executable attempted to load it.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent application
This is the most likely and safest fix.
Use the built-in repair option
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the InterVideo, WinDVD, DVD, Mobile TV, or OEM multimedia program.
- Open its menu and select Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the original program again.
If Windows reports that the repair completed and the application opens normally, the missing file was part of the damaged installation.
For a classic desktop application, use Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the program, and choose Change or Repair. Follow the installer prompts, then restart.
Reinstall when repair is unavailable
Use the original installer from the software vendor, the computer manufacturer’s recovery media, or the account where you legitimately obtained the application.
- Back up any application settings or media-library data you need.
- Uninstall the damaged program from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the complete official installer.
- Accept the default installation directory unless the program documentation requires another location.
- Restart again.
- Test the program from its installed shortcut.
Do not copy a replacement DLL from another computer. Even when the filename matches, the file may belong to a different product release, dependency set, or processor architecture.
Some old WinDVD releases targeted earlier Windows versions. If the installer refuses to run, use the supported vendor release or OEM recovery package for your computer. If the application is obsolete and no longer needed, uninstalling it is safer than preserving a broken startup entry.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old application file. That does not automatically mean the file was safe.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security on Windows 11.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand any item involving
appregagent.dllor the suspected application. - Read the detection name, original file path, and action taken.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history.
If the file was in the expected InterVideo or WinDVD installation folder and the parent program is known and legitimate, allow or restore it only after scanning the installer and system. Microsoft warns that allowing a file can expose the device if the detection is genuine.
The safer recovery path is:
- Leave the quarantined file removed.
- Uninstall the parent application.
- Download or retrieve the complete installer from the original vendor or OEM.
- Scan that installer with Windows Security.
- Reinstall the application.
- Check Protection history again if the file is immediately quarantined.
If the error began after malware cleanup, do not restore the DLL merely to make the message disappear. Run a full Windows Security scan and investigate the original application directory first.

Fix 3: Remove a stale startup entry
If you no longer use the multimedia program, restoring the DLL is unnecessary.
Remove a Startup folder shortcut
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter
shell:startupand press Enter. - Delete only the shortcut clearly associated with the removed InterVideo, WinDVD, or media application.
- Repeat with
shell:common startupif the error affects all users. - Restart Windows.
Disable or remove a scheduled task
- Press
Windowsand type Task Scheduler. - Open Task Scheduler.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks whose names or actions mention the old application.
- Double-click a task and inspect the Actions tab.
- If it launches a deleted multimedia executable, right-click the task and choose Disable.
- Delete it only when you are certain it belongs to the removed program.
Do not delete unrelated Microsoft tasks. If the task is unclear, disable it first and restart to test.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit application and dependency issues
appregagent.dll is associated with older Win32 software. A 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows normally loads its 32-bit application files from its own folder or from a path under Program Files (x86).
Do not assume that:
System32is the correct destination for a 32-bit DLLSysWOW64is a general-purpose 32-bit DLL folder- Installing a 64-bit runtime satisfies a 32-bit application
- A file copied from another release is compatible
If the message says “The specified module could not be found,” Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by appregagent.dll. Reinstall the parent program first. Only investigate Visual C++ or DirectX when the error names a runtime component or the official application installer identifies one.
For a Visual C++ dependency:
- Use Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Install the x86 package for a 32-bit application.
- Install the x64 package only when a separate 64-bit application requires it.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the original application.
Do not download individual runtime DLLs from an archive.

Fix 5: Update or reinstall related drivers
Drivers are not the usual cause of a missing private application DLL, but old multimedia software can interact with display, audio, optical-drive, or capture hardware. Update drivers only when the application also reports playback, device, or hardware errors.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, DVD/CD-ROM drives, or Imaging devices.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean reinstall, right-click the device, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the driver supplied by the computer or hardware manufacturer. Do not uninstall a device unless you know how Windows will restore its driver.
Manually checking several hardware manufacturers and matching old driver packages can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the multimedia application remains the definitive fix when that program owns appregagent.dll.
Fix 6: Repair Windows system files
SFC and DISM are useful when Windows itself is malfunctioning, updates fail, or multiple built-in components are damaged. They normally do not restore a third-party InterVideo DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Microsoft documents this sequence in its System File Checker guidance. Run DISM before SFC and do not close the Command Prompt while either scan is active.

If SFC reports that it repaired files but the same application error remains, return to repairing or reinstalling the parent program. SFC is not a substitute for an application installer.
If you want to avoid repeatedly hunting through repair commands and guessing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows issues; its free scan shows findings, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the InterVideo or WinDVD application remains the correct fix for this file.

Do not run this as a generic repair:
regsvr32 appregagent.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not replace a missing application file, repair dependencies, or rebuild a damaged installation. Microsoft describes it as a DLL registration tool.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use registration only if the application’s own documentation explicitly says that this specific component is a COM or ActiveX control and provides the required registration command. Otherwise, repair or reinstall the parent application.
Why Windows Features and DirectX are usually not the answer
Windows Features can enable optional components such as legacy compatibility features, but enabling random features does not recreate appregagent.dll.
To inspect optional features:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Optional features.
- Review installed features.
- Select View features only when the application’s documentation names a specific requirement.
- Install the required feature and restart if prompted.
On Windows 10, use Settings > Apps > Optional features.
Do not enable legacy components simply because the filename contains “agent.” The file is associated with a specific third-party application, not with a standard Windows feature.

If reinstalling still fails
Check these conditions:
- The installer may be too old for the current Windows version.
- The program may require a 32-bit runtime or dependency.
- Windows Security may be removing the file again.
- A stale shortcut may be launching an old copy instead of the new installation.
- The error may identify a missing dependency rather than
appregagent.dll. - The application may have installed into a different directory than the shortcut expects.
Right-click the working executable, choose Properties, and inspect Target and Compatibility. If the program is clearly legacy software, try the compatibility troubleshooter:
- Right-click the application executable.
- Select Properties > Compatibility.
- Choose Run compatibility troubleshooter.
- Follow the test prompts.
- Apply settings only if the application launches correctly during testing.
If the installer reports that the program is not designed to run on Windows or returns 0xc000007b, obtain the complete matching installer instead of replacing individual DLLs.
If the problem began immediately after a recent installation or update, use System Restore:

FAQ
Is appregagent.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with InterVideo multimedia software and is not normally required by Windows itself.
Which program needs appregagent.dll?
Most evidence points to older InterVideo, WinDVD, InterVideo DVD, Mobile TV, or related OEM multimedia programs. Identify the caller from the error dialog, shortcut, startup entry, or Event Viewer rather than guessing.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Should I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Only when the file belongs to a known, legitimate installation and scans clean. Reinstalling the parent application is safer because it restores the complete matching file set.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. A private application DLL should normally remain in its application directory. Copying it to a Windows directory can cause version, dependency, and DLL-search-order problems.
Do I need Visual C++ or DirectX?
Not automatically. Reinstall the parent application first. Investigate a runtime only when the error names one or the official installer requires it.
Can SFC restore appregagent.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while appregagent.dll is a third-party application file.
