The errors may say:
- “The program can’t start because apsdaemon_main.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because apsdaemon_main.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting apsdaemon_main.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading apsdaemon_main.dll.”
- “apsdaemon_main.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
apsdaemon_main.dll is an Apple Windows component, usually associated with APS Daemon and Apple Application Support. If it is missing, repair or reinstall the Apple program that installed it rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
The 60-second answer
First identify the program named in the error, startup entry, Task Manager, or Event Viewer. The file has historically been installed with Apple software such as older iTunes components and may also be associated with Apple’s broader Windows software stack.
Check these expected locations:

For 32-bit Apple software on 64-bit Windows:

If the file is absent, repair the Apple application if Windows offers that option. If repair is unavailable or fails, uninstall the affected Apple software and reinstall it from Apple’s official Microsoft Store route. Do not copy the DLL into System32, SysWOW64, or another application folder.
What apsdaemon_main.dll belongs to
apsdaemon_main.dll is associated with APS Daemon, a background Apple component historically used by iTunes and related Apple software for Apple device, push, or synchronization functions. It is not a Windows system DLL.

Historical file listings place APSDaemon.exe and APSDaemon_main.dll together in Apple Application Support. Some third-party inventories associate the file with iCloud as well, so the exact owning application depends on what is installed on the computer.
The file is legitimate when it is inside an Apple installation directory and belongs to a valid Apple-signed installation. A copy with the same name in a temporary, downloads, or user-writable folder should be treated as suspicious until scanned.
Reported historical inventories include both 32-bit and 64-bit builds. Their listed versions are observations, not an authoritative Apple release list. Do not select a replacement based only on a version or file size.

The wording “specified module could not be found” does not always mean apsdaemon_main.dll itself is missing. Windows may be unable to load one of its dependencies.

Fix 1: Identify the application that is failing
Before changing files, find the executable that requested the DLL.
- Read the full error dialog. Note the program name or executable path.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps and look for Apple, iTunes, iCloud, or APS-related entries.
- Right-click a relevant entry and choose Open file location, if available.
- If the error appears during boot, open Event Viewer by pressing Win + R, typing
eventvwr.msc, and pressing Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the problem occurred and record the faulting application and module.
This matters because current Microsoft Store Apple applications may use a different internal packaging structure from older desktop iTunes installations. Repair the application that is actually launching, not an unrelated Apple component.
Fix 2: Repair the Apple application
Microsoft Store installation
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find iCloud, iTunes, or the Apple application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot More button.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch the application again.
Repair keeps the application’s data where possible while replacing damaged program files. If the error remains, return to the same page and select Reset. Reset may remove application data and sign-in information, so use it only after Repair fails.

Traditional desktop installation
- Press Win + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected Apple program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
If no repair option is available, uninstall the affected Apple program, restart the computer, and reinstall it from Apple’s official Windows download route through the Microsoft Store. For iCloud, sign out first, then remove it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11 or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.

How to tell whether this worked
The fix worked if the original Apple application opens without the DLL message, APS-related startup errors stop appearing, and the repaired installation contains its Apple files in the expected application directory.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine and the file signature
Security software can quarantine a legitimate file after an update or a damaged installation.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
apsdaemon_main.dll,APSDaemon.exe, or Apple Application Support. - Do not restore the file immediately.
- First confirm that the file belongs in an Apple installation directory and that its Digital Signatures tab identifies Apple.
- If the file is legitimate and Windows Security identifies it as a false positive, restore it only according to your security software’s normal process.
- Repair or reinstall the Apple application afterward so the installation is complete.
- Run a new scan.
If the file is outside the expected Apple directory, has no valid Apple signature, or was launched from a temporary folder, do not restore it. Scan the computer with Microsoft Defender and investigate the suspicious copy.

Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 64-bit version of Windows can run both 64-bit and 32-bit applications. Windows architecture alone does not tell you which DLL build an Apple application needs.
- A 32-bit Apple executable needs the 32-bit component.
- A 64-bit Apple executable needs the 64-bit component.
System32is not a safe destination for this file.SysWOW64is not a general-purpose destination for this file.
To inspect the application:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Details.
- Right-click the column headings and choose Select columns, if needed.
- Add Platform where Windows provides it.
- Check the Apple executable while it is running.
You can also right-click the executable, choose Properties, and inspect its location and details. The reliable repair is to reinstall the Apple package that supplied the executable and its matching libraries. Do not mix a historical 32-bit DLL with a newer 64-bit installation.

Fix 5: Repair a missing dependency
If apsdaemon_main.dll is present but Windows still reports that the module cannot be found, another dependency may be missing or incompatible.
The safest sequence is:
- Close iTunes, iCloud, Apple device services, and related processes in Task Manager.
- Uninstall the affected Apple application from Installed apps or Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Install pending Windows updates from Settings > Windows Update.
- Reinstall the Apple application from its official Microsoft Store route.
- Restart again and test it.
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is not a replacement for apsdaemon_main.dll. Install or repair a Microsoft runtime only when diagnostics specifically identify a missing Microsoft runtime dependency.

Fix 6: Repair broader Windows component corruption
Use DISM and SFC only when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or multiple unrelated applications show corruption. These commands do not normally recreate a third-party Apple DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the Apple application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands complete successfully but the Apple error remains, return to the Apple repair or reinstall steps rather than repeatedly running Windows repair commands.

Reinstalling the Apple program remains the definitive fix when this specific DLL is damaged or missing.
Fix 7: Remove an orphaned Apple startup entry
If you no longer use iTunes, iCloud, or another Apple application, the error may come from a leftover startup entry.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Find an Apple or APS-related entry.
- Confirm that you no longer need the associated Apple software.
- Right-click the entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove Apple programs you no longer use. Do not delete Apple Application Support if another installed Apple application still needs it.
Fix 8: Update drivers only when other symptoms point to drivers
A display, USB, or Apple-device driver problem can prevent an Apple application from working, but a driver update does not normally replace apsdaemon_main.dll.

If the error appears only when connecting an Apple device:
- Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, Portable Devices, and any Apple-related category.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If the device remains faulty, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and reconnect it.
- Install the driver supplied through Windows Update or the official Apple installation.
Manually hunting through hardware entries and matching driver versions can be tedious. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the Apple application that owns apsdaemon_main.dll.
Why downloading or registering the DLL is usually wrong
Do not download apsdaemon_main.dll from a random DLL website. An isolated copy can contain malware, target the wrong architecture, conflict with the installed Apple version, or leave the missing dependency and damaged installation untouched.
Do not copy it into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Do not scatter it across application folders as a blanket fix.
regsvr32 is also not a general DLL installation tool. It applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that this private Apple runtime DLL is a self-registering COM component, so this is not an evidence-based command:
regsvr32 apsdaemon_main.dll
An error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found would be expected for a DLL that does not support registration.

If the problem began immediately after a Windows update and several unrelated programs stopped working, consider System Restore rather than replacing the Apple DLL.
- Press Win + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review affected programs.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings without normally affecting personal files, but it may remove recently installed applications or updates.
