The best target is the Bastion’s rear yellow cylinder. Once it breaks, aim at the exposed internal barrel beneath the removed rear plate. If the rear is unavailable, use the yellow leg joints. Avoid throwing Wolfpacks into the Bastion’s frontal armor.

How many Wolfpacks kill a Bastion?
Two Wolfpacks are the practical standard when at least some missiles connect with the rear canister, exposed rear weak point, or leg joints. Depending on placement, you may still need a few heavy weapon shots or another explosive to finish the Bastion.

- One Wolfpack: Can kill or nearly kill a Bastion with exceptional weak-point coverage, but is not guaranteed.
- Two Wolfpacks: The normal loadout for a serious Bastion attempt.
- Three Wolfpacks: The conservative choice when the Bastion may turn, terrain may obstruct the missiles, nearby ARC may attract locks, or you want a spare volley.
Published testing describes clean kills in the range of one to two Wolfpacks, typical encounters requiring two plus follow-up damage, and inconsistent placements taking up to three. That means there is no current universal rule that “two Wolfpacks always kill.” (Testing on Bastion Wolfpack damage)

A Wolfpack scatters into 12 homing missiles, each listed at 166 damage. That does not guarantee 1,992 damage to the Bastion: missiles can hit different body sections, fail to reach the intended weak point, or lock onto another ARC nearby. (Wolfpack reference)
Where to aim Wolfpacks
1. The rear yellow cylinder
The yellow cylinder on the Bastion’s back is the primary Wolfpack target. It is a critical-damage area, and destroying it briefly stuns the Bastion while removing the rear plate and exposing a larger internal weak point. (Bastion reference)
- Get behind the Bastion, or make it turn away from you.
- Throw while the rear yellow cylinder is clearly exposed.
- Allow the missiles to complete their lock-on sequence before letting the Bastion leave line of sight.
- After the cylinder breaks, direct your next damage at the large barrel-like component underneath the removed rear plate.
The exposed barrel is a separate, stronger follow-up target. Do not confuse it with the outer yellow cylinder.

2. The yellow leg joints
The yellow kneecaps or leg joints are valid weak points. Breaking one stuns the Bastion and can create an opportunity to reposition behind it. They are also the best fallback targets when the rear is hidden or inaccessible.
Use a leg joint when the Bastion is facing you, terrain blocks its back, you need a stun before moving, or the rear cylinder is retracting, concealed, or already destroyed.
3. Avoid the frontal armor
Front-facing body armor is a poor-value Wolfpack target. If neither the rear cylinder nor a yellow leg joint is exposed, stay in cover, force the Bastion to turn, or wait for a better angle instead of wasting a volley against the frontal plate. (Community testing on target efficiency)

A reliable Bastion kill sequence
- Take cover first. The Bastion’s warning screech comes before an approximately three-second gatling burst aimed at the Raider’s last known position. (Bastion attack reference)
- Force its attention away. One Raider can draw aggro while another reaches the rear. Solo players should use cover and timing to make the Bastion expose its back.
- Throw the first Wolfpack. Prioritize the rear yellow cylinder; use a visible yellow leg joint if the rear cannot be reached.
- Exploit the stun. Throw the second Wolfpack at the rear weak point or the exposed internal barrel once the cylinder has been destroyed.
- Finish the target. Use heavy weapon shots or another explosive if the two volleys leave the Bastion alive.
- Check the area before salvaging. Other Raiders and ARC can turn a successful kill into a dangerous recovery.
Why two Wolfpacks sometimes fail
A failed two-Wolfpack attempt does not automatically mean the weapon is broken. The most common explanations are:

- Missiles struck armor instead of a weak point.
- The Bastion turned during lock-on or impact.
- Terrain or cover blocked part of the volley.
- A nearby ARC received some of the missile locks.
- The grenade was thrown before the rear cylinder or leg joint was fully exposed.
- Damage was spread across multiple sections instead of concentrated on one weak point.
Patch 1.39.0, released July 28, 2026, fixed inconsistent damage from Wolfpack Grenade and Seeker Grenade. As of August 8, 2026, it is the latest gameplay patch; Store Update 1.40.0 did not list a Bastion or Wolfpack balance change. (Official Live Update 1.39.0 notes) Older tests and complaints may therefore reflect behavior from before that fix.

What to remember
Plan around two Wolfpacks, not a guaranteed damage threshold. Open with the rear yellow cylinder, follow with the exposed internal barrel, and switch to yellow leg joints when the rear is unavailable. Carrying a third gives you insurance, but good positioning and concentrated weak-point hits matter more than blindly adding grenades.
