If ARC Raiders is crashing on your Steam Deck, first install any available SteamOS updates and restart the Deck. Then check the game’s compatibility settings, try the latest Proton option if appropriate, and verify the game files. Steam lists ARC Raiders as Steam Deck Verified, but Verified status does not guarantee crash-free play in every configuration or after every update.

What to check before changing settings

Note where the failure occurs: before the game opens, at the anti-cheat or launch screen, in the main menu, while loading into a raid, or during a match. Save the exact error text or code, and note whether a game or SteamOS update happened shortly before the problem began. These details help distinguish a launch failure from a crash later in play.

How to troubleshoot ARC Raiders crashes on Steam Deck

1. Update SteamOS and restart

Install any available SteamOS updates, then restart the Deck. Steam’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide also recommends checking for third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode. If you use any, exit or disable them and restart to see whether the behavior changes.

2. Check compatibility and try a Proton option

In your Steam Library, open ARC Raiders’ Properties and select Compatibility. Steam lets you force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool there; if the game is still crashing, trying the latest Proton version available in that menu is a reasonable diagnostic step. ARC Raiders is marked Verified, so changing Proton is an option to test—not a required fix or proof that Proton caused the crash.

3. Verify the installed game files

In Steam, open ARC Raiders’ Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam will check the installation and replace files it finds damaged or missing. Embark recommends this check for corrupted or missing files in its PC crash and launch troubleshooting guide; file verification is a Steam feature, but Embark’s full guide is not a Steam Deck-specific fix list.

Does anti-cheat or Proton explain the crash?

Steam’s ARC Raiders listing identifies kernel-level anti-cheat. Valve’s general Steam Deck and Proton documentation says, “Kernel-space solutions are not currently supported and are not recommended,” and recommends user-space anti-cheat components for best results in Proton. That is useful compatibility context, but it does not establish that anti-cheat is causing a particular crash or explain the game’s exact current implementation.

Which PC troubleshooting advice applies to Steam Deck?

Embark’s crash article is explicitly for PC and was last updated September 30, 2026. It says to turn off Raider Voice (Beta) if enabled, verify game files, check PC requirements, and investigate certain Easy Anti-Cheat errors. Treat those as PC guidance: Windows driver updates and antivirus exclusions are not confirmed Steam Deck remedies. If Raider Voice (Beta) is available and enabled in your game settings, turning it off is a game-specific option to test, not a guaranteed fix.

Embark’s published PC requirements are not Steam Deck specifications. The Steam listing gives minimum requirements of 12 GB RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti, Radeon RX 580, or Intel Arc A380; its recommended requirements are 16 GB RAM and an RTX 2070, RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc B570. Those figures should not be used to judge the Deck against a separate Deck-specific requirement.

When to contact support

If the crashes continue after the basic checks, send support details that help identify the failure rather than only reporting that the game crashes. Include:

  • Whether your Deck is the LCD or OLED model.
  • Your SteamOS version and the Proton option selected for ARC Raiders.
  • Where the crash occurs and the exact error text or code, including any anti-cheat message.
  • Whether the issue began after a game or SteamOS update, and whether you use third-party tools or applications.

Steam advises contacting Steam Support if its general troubleshooting steps do not resolve persistent issues. For game-specific help, use Embark Studios Support. Neither source establishes one universal cause or a Steam Deck-specific workaround for every ARC Raiders crash.
