Search storage in Stella Montis’s Medical Research and Assembly Workshop first, then check the Security Checkpoint offices and the Lobby’s circular sofas if your route allows. These are reported search spots, not guaranteed spawns: no reliable location rates are established, and the Flow Controller comes from random Exodus loot. If you need one for Snap and Salvage, secure it in a safe pocket when possible and extract so you can deliver it to Tian Wen with a Magnetron.
Best places to search for a Flow Controller
Flow Controller is random loot, so no room guarantees a find. Search containers and drawers rather than relying on one specific object; other raiders may also have cleared a spot before you arrive.

Medical Research
Older location guides point to the upper floor’s left side, especially drawers and small containers. Rooms and corridors with storage are also repeatedly cited as useful places to check. The area can be contested, so do not assume it will still be untouched.
Assembly Workshop
Check breachable cabinets and other storage in the Workshop. Guides recommend this area, but they do not provide measured spawn rates or establish that a Flow Controller will appear there in every raid.

Security Checkpoint offices
Drawers and nearby offices are another reported search location. One guide describes a drawer as “guaranteed,” but no official spawn data substantiates that claim; treat the checkpoint as a lead, not a promise.
Stella Montis Lobby sofas
Recent player reports describe Flow Controllers on or near the Lobby’s circular, sometimes blue, sofas. A Steam discussion also reports finding the quest item on a round couch. These are anecdotes, not confirmation of a fixed spawn or an official change to the loot table. They do not show that the older search areas stopped working.
A practical Stella Montis search route
- Search Medical Research storage, including drawers and small containers, if it fits your route.
- Move through the Assembly Workshop and check breachable cabinets and other storage.
- If convenient, check Security Checkpoint offices and drawers.
- Finish by checking the Lobby seating for the community-reported sofa possibility.
- If you find a Flow Controller for a quest, put it in a safe pocket when possible and prioritize extraction.
Loot competition, random drops, and game updates can affect results. There is no verified spawn percentage to show that one of these locations is statistically better than the others.
What the Flow Controller is used for
Flow Controller is a Rare, recyclable item in the Exodus loot pool, not a quest-only pickup. The item database lists Stella Montis scavenging as a source. For Snap and Salvage, you need a Flow Controller and a Magnetron to deliver to Tian Wen; the quest also has map objectives, including photographing a Rover in the Sandbox and searching papers in the Security Checkpoint. The cited quest guide says the materials must be carried back and delivered rather than registering automatically when found. Check the live quest UI if mechanics have changed since that guide.

How certain are the location reports?
Medical Research, Assembly Workshop, and Security Checkpoint appear in older guides; Lobby seating appears in newer community reports. None of the cited material establishes an official spawn table, a guaranteed location, or a controlled comparison of drop frequency. The clearest practical approach is to search storage across your route and treat each reported spot as a chance rather than a fixed spawn.
