Those were rules for the second Expedition, announced by Embark Studios on February 5, 2026, not confirmed requirements for the future redesigned system.
What changed in the second Expedition?
Embark said it reduced the Stash-value target after hearing that the previous requirement was too high. The second Expedition’s maximum five Skill Points required 3 million Coins in Stash value, or 600,000 per point. The announcement also introduced a lower-cost route to recover Skill Points missed during the first Expedition.
| Second-Expedition requirement | Stash value | What it covered |
|---|---|---|
| Five Skill Points | 3 million Coins total; 600,000 per point | The second Expedition’s five points |
| Catch-up points | 300,000 per point | Each missed first-Expedition Skill Point |
| Possible total for a player embarking on their second Expedition | 85 Skill Points | Second-Expedition points plus catch-up points, as described by Embark |
These are developer-published mechanics figures, not independent measurements of how long players spent grinding. Embark said the catch-up system would make the total Coins needed for maximum Skill Points lower over successive Expeditions, but did not promise that the same rates would apply in later ones. Embark’s February 5, 2026 second-Expedition announcement contains the published requirements.
How did catch-up points work?
Players could use Stash value to reclaim points they had missed in the first Expedition at 300,000 per missing point. Departure Coins were applied to the second Expedition’s points first, then toward the missed first-Expedition points. That ordering matters: the cheaper catch-up rate did not replace the 600,000-per-point rate for the second Expedition’s own five points.

What carried over, and what changed with consecutive departures?
Embark said permanent bonuses already earned would remain even if a player did not depart again. By contrast, the announced buffs were tied to consecutive departures and reset if a player stopped departing. For consecutive departures, Embark listed the following increases:
- XP boost: 5% to 10%.
- Scrappy materials boost: 6% to 12%.
- Repair value increase: 60% to 70%.
The announcement also said these parts of progression were unaffected by that Expedition: Trophy Display Project, cosmetics, Raider Deck progress, unlocked map regions, leaderboard position, Trials, Codex entries, and Raider Tokens.

Are these still the rules for future Expeditions?
No future requirement should be inferred from the second-Expedition figures. In a May 13, 2026 development update, Embark said it planned to move major updates to a twice-yearly cadence while continuing regular live updates, fixes, store updates, and events. It also said it wanted the Expedition Project to be more rewarding and less punishing. Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal explained the cadence change: “Running at that pace isn’t sustainable, or compatible with the bigger ambitions we have for this game.” The May development update discusses that broader context.
In its August 21, 2026 announcement, Embark described adjustments to the fifth Expedition, including an optional quest reset and a departure window extended from two weeks to three. It identified departure-window pressure, reward structure, and accessibility for new players as issues requiring larger changes, and said the fifth Expedition would be the last until Expeditions return with major improvements in early 2027. The announcement did not specify the future system’s requirements. Read Embark’s fifth-Expedition announcement for those later changes.
