The Kettle was a powerful semi-automatic rifle whose old 600-round-per-minute fire-rate setting and input-buffer behavior made third-party trigger automation unusually valuable. Embark reduced its listed fire rate to 450 RPM in Patch 1.11.0, then adjusted semi-automatic input buffering and lowered its base damage from 10 to 8.5 in Patch 1.17.0.
What the “Kettle macro” was
A Kettle macro meant using external automation—such as a mouse, controller, or peripheral macro—to generate repeated firing inputs. It was not an attachment, console command, setting, or alternate firing mode available inside ARC Raiders. Embark described the underlying balance issue as an “unfair dynamic” that favored third-party software.

Because the Kettle is semi-automatic, its damage output depends on how quickly the game accepts successive trigger inputs. A player normally has to click repeatedly at the weapon’s intended cadence. An automated macro can produce highly regular inputs with very little timing variation, making it easier to sustain the weapon’s maximum or near-maximum output.
Why the Kettle was especially vulnerable
The Kettle was designed as a relatively deliberate, accurate rifle with high damage per shot. Embark later said players were using it at close range and effectively turning it into an SMG. That description referred to how the weapon was being used—not to a change in its classification. The Kettle remains semi-automatic.

The problem became worse because of changes to semi-automatic input handling:
- Patch 1.13 included an optimization that unintentionally reduced the total fire rate of semi-automatic weapons.
- Patch 1.13.1 reverted that optimization but introduced another unintended change to weapon input buffers.
- The altered buffer behavior allowed players to spam-click rather than carefully learn and reproduce the intended firing cadence.
Embark described that behavior as a “shadow buff” because it reduced the skill requirement associated with timing semi-automatic shots. External automation made the consistency advantage even more pronounced.
The two major Kettle changes
Patch 1.11.0: 600 RPM reduced to 450 RPM
On January 13, 2026, Embark reduced the Kettle’s listed fire rate from 600 RPM to 450 RPM. The developer note said that 600 RPM was only realistically reachable by players using macros, creating an advantage for third-party software. See the official Patch 1.11.0 notes.

Patch 1.17.0: input buffering changed and damage reduced
On February 24, 2026, Embark adjusted semi-automatic input buffering after investigating the 1.13.1 behavior. Its stated goal was to keep spam-clicking responsive while rewarding players who paced their shots correctly. The buffer window could also be controlled on a weapon-by-weapon basis.
For the Kettle, the patch reduced base damage from 10 to 8.5 while retaining its high headshot multiplier. The current listed base damage is therefore 8.5, rather than the older value cited in launch-era discussions. Embark’s explanation appears in the Patch 1.17.0 notes.
What changed after the nerfs?
The original issue was a combination of several factors, not simply the ability to click quickly:
- A high-damage semi-automatic rifle.
- A generous old fire-rate ceiling.
- Input buffering that made spam-clicking unusually effective.
- External automation that repeated trigger inputs with machine-like consistency.
After Patch 1.11.0, the listed fire rate became 450 RPM. After Patch 1.17.0, semi-automatic input behavior and Kettle damage were also adjusted. The accurate modern description is therefore not “the launch Kettle still fires at 600 RPM” or “a macro gives it unlimited fire.” The weapon’s balance and input handling were changed.

As of the latest updates covered by the supplied official patch history—Live Update 1.39.0 on July 28, 2026, and store update 1.40.0 on August 4—there was no newly listed Kettle-specific balance change. The official Live Update 1.39.0 notes do not describe another Kettle adjustment.
Claims that overstate the problem
“The Kettle fires at 1,440 RPM with a macro”
That figure is not supported by Embark’s official patch notes. The documented history identifies 600 RPM as the old value and 450 RPM as the post-1.11 value. A 1,440-RPM figure from secondary coverage should not be presented as an official or current weapon statistic.
“A macro bypasses the Kettle’s fire-rate cap”
That is too broad. The documented issue was that the old fire-rate setting was realistically reachable through macros, while later input-buffer behavior reduced the importance of learning the intended cadence. The official notes do not establish an unlimited firing rate.

“Anyone firing the Kettle quickly is using a macro”
Rapid fire alone does not prove automation. Patch 1.17.0 explicitly says spam-clicking remains responsive, and a player may manually approach the accepted cadence. Headshots, weapon tier, distance, armor, hit registration, and network conditions can also make a kill appear unusually fast.

“The Kettle is now a fully automatic SMG”
No. It remains a semi-automatic rifle. “Turning it into an SMG” was Embark’s description of close-range usage, not a formal change to its firing mode.
“The macro problem is unchanged from launch”
That is outdated. Embark reduced the fire rate in Patch 1.11.0, then changed semi-automatic input buffering and Kettle damage in Patch 1.17.0.

Several legitimate factors can produce similar-looking results:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- A skilled player can click quickly enough to approach the weapon’s accepted cadence.
- Spam-clicking and carefully paced shots can feel different because of input buffering.
- The Kettle’s high headshot multiplier can sharply reduce time to kill.
- Higher-tier versions improve handling-related statistics, including bullet velocity and reload time, although the available evidence does not present the base-damage change as a tier-based damage increase.
- Range, armor, hit registration, and network conditions can alter the apparent result.
A single fast elimination or rapid magazine is consequently weak evidence. Stronger indicators would be repeated, highly consistent maximum-rate input patterns across multiple engagements, ideally supported by video or telemetry. Even then, only Embark can confirm whether an account violated the rules.

Can Embark detect Kettle macros?
Embark says its anti-cheat system combines Easy Anti-Cheat, machine-learning models trained on player telemetry, and additional undisclosed detection layers. It has specifically described input-telemetry analysis as an effective tool and says it works to distinguish legitimate accessibility-device use from abuse. Its overview is available in Embark’s fair-play statement.
Embark has not published a Kettle-specific detection threshold, macro signature, or command syntax. It also has not said that every player who fires the Kettle rapidly is automatically banned.
Its February 17, 2026 exploit statement says enforcement decisions can consider confirmed usage, scope, effect, intent, frequency, severity, and impact. Potential outcomes listed there include warnings, removal of exploit-linked Coins, and suspensions. A later anti-cheat section said strong detections may receive permanent bans, while other cases may receive a temporary suspension and one opportunity to correct the behavior. These are broader enforcement policies, not a published Kettle-specific penalty table. See Embark’s exploit enforcement update.
What players should take away
The Kettle macro controversy was a genuine interaction between weapon balance, semi-automatic input buffering, and external automation. It was not evidence that the Kettle had an officially supported macro mode, an unlimited firing rate, or a guaranteed instant-kill mechanic.
The current documented figures are the ones that matter: 450 RPM listed fire rate and 8.5 base damage. Older claims built around 600 RPM, 1,440 RPM, or an unchanged launch-era exploit should be treated as historical or overstated rather than as descriptions of the current weapon.
