There is no confirmed current outage for Battlefield 4 or Battlefield 2042 in the available status information. Check EA’s live service-status page and your platform’s network status before changing settings; an online listing is not proof that every player can connect, and Battlefield 4 is not shown in the surfaced EA status list.
Check whether the problem is widespread
-
Check EA’s server-status page for the game and platform you use. EA directs players with connection trouble to check the real-time status of the relevant game or platform. The page surfaced here lists Battlefield 2042 and services for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Steam, but not Battlefield 4. That absence does not establish whether Battlefield 4 is online, offline, or discontinued.
-
Check the network-status page for your console or PC platform as well. A platform service problem can block connection even when the game service is available.
-
Ask whether other online games work on your connection and whether players on the same Battlefield title and platform are reporting the same issue. Similar reports are a useful clue, not official confirmation of an outage.

The EA page’s surfaced search snapshot is not a timestamped confirmation of today’s service state. This information does not confirm that either Battlefield game is currently up or down, so use the live checks rather than assuming an outage or a fix time.
If services appear online, test your connection
EA forum support recommends checking connection troubleshooting guidance and identifies a hardwired connection as its top stability tip. If you suspect Wi-Fi instability, try connecting your PC or console to the router with Ethernet, if you have a compatible port and cable. This is a low-complexity diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix; it cannot repair an EA or platform outage.

There is no evidence here that buying a VPN, replacing network equipment, reinstalling the game, or changing DNS is a generally proven solution. Avoid making disruptive changes before checking service status and isolating the problem.
When to check Battlefield 2042 cross-play settings
Consider cross-play only if the issue is specifically related to matchmaking or access under particular settings. EA’s Battlefield 2042 PS4 settings guide documents a cross-play control and says it cannot be changed while you are in a party, matchmaking, or after joining a server. This setting guidance does not show that cross-play causes a general server connection failure.

If you still cannot connect
If EA and platform status checks do not clarify the issue, it may be local to your connection, related to the platform, or on the game-service side. For Battlefield 4 in particular, the available EA status listing does not resolve the current service state. Keep checking the relevant official status pages rather than treating an unverified report as confirmation or relying on an unofficial estimate of when service will return.
EA’s Battlefield 2042 page includes an update entry dated October 25, 2024, but that historical update does not establish present server availability.
