The complaint is real but its prevalence is unknown: forum comments are not a representative survey. EA has acknowledged interest in larger-scale maps and, as of September 2026, described planned changes to Tsuru Reef Breakthrough and layout testing for New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields. Those updates show that map flow and space remain active design concerns; they do not establish that every map is too small or that announced changes have solved the problem.
Why players say Battlefield 6 maps feel too small
Community posts include blunt assessments such as “Current maps are too small” and complaints that some Conquest maps feel like older Team Deathmatch maps in 64-player matches. These comments show that the criticism recurs, but they do not tell us how many players share it. No representative published figure establishes what proportion of the player base currently considers the maps too small.
“Small” can also describe how a match plays rather than the map’s outer dimensions. Objective boundaries, choke points, available routes, spawn positions, playable space and the number of players all affect how much room there seems to be. A map with a broad footprint can still feel cramped if combat funnels through a few approaches; a denser layout may feel appropriate at a lower player count or in a faster mode.
How mode and player count change the feel
In its August 2025 beta debrief, EA said Breakthrough layouts could use 48 or 64 players depending on the map. The developer’s stated rationale was that higher counts suit open, dynamic layouts, while smaller groups can suit denser ones. EA also said Rush can suffer at higher counts when defenses are overwhelmed, frontlines stall or matches end early. These are design considerations EA described, not evidence that players uniformly prefer one count or layout.

EA also noted that beta maps were smaller and faster-paced, while larger-scale maps were included in the launch package. DICE lead producer David Sirland described the intended pacing contrast in August 2025: “We are very much looking back at our past modern incarnations when it comes to pacing. I’d urge everyone to go and play some smaller/medium map BF3 and BF4 to get a good example of the intensity curve. It is slower and more deliberate on the larger maps, as it was in the past.” That explains the design intent, but does not settle whether the current balance works for players who want more space.
What EA said it would change in 2026
Tsuru Reef Breakthrough
On September 2, 2026, EA said its review of player discussions and match outcomes showed Tsuru Reef Breakthrough favoring defenders more than intended. The planned response included changing objective boundaries and locations, widening playable space, adding flanking routes, and adjusting spawns and vehicles. These were announced changes as of that date; the update alone does not confirm their final implementation or whether they improved match balance.

New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields
The same September update described upcoming Battlefield Labs layout tests for New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields. EA said it would explore more separation between headquarters, greater vertical space for flanking, terrain breaks, and additional ways to reach rooftops and objectives. These are testing plans, not confirmation that a final map layout has changed.
Wake Island traversal fix
EA’s September 28, 2026 update 1.4.3.5 listed the removal of two invisible barriers near an objective on Wake Island. That is a traversal fix; EA did not describe it as an expansion of the map.

So, are the maps too small?
For some players and some matches, evidently yes. The clearest evidence supports a recurring complaint and an ongoing developer focus on routes, objectives, playable space, spawns, player counts and mode-specific balance. It does not support a claim that most players feel this way, that every Battlefield 6 map is too small, or that the September 2026 plans produced a particular result. There is also no standardized published map-area dataset here that would justify ranking every map by size alone.
