Resident Evil Requiem is out, and a January 2026 hands-on preview described an encounter with “four Crimson Heads.” That is evidence that the preview used the name—not confirmation from Capcom that the enemies are the same Crimson Heads from an earlier game. The official comments available instead describe redesigned zombies without naming them Crimson Heads.
Are Crimson Heads in Resident Evil Requiem?
GamesRadar’s January 2026 hands-on preview described the writer as “Surrounded by the blood splatter mush of four Crimson Heads.” This is a preview outlet’s description of an encounter. It supports saying that GamesRadar called those enemies Crimson Heads, but does not establish that Capcom officially uses the label or that the enemies are canonically the same creature type from an earlier game. Capcom’s official developer comments do not use the term. In a PlayStation Blog interview, director Koshi Nakanishi said, “Zombies in this game retain some traces of human intelligence and instincts.” He also described the design goal: “We wanted to transform zombies into threats that consistently defy player expectations and keep them on edge.” Those statements establish the broader behavior and design intent, not a Crimson Head classification. What the preview and Capcom each establish
| Source | What it says | What that establishes |
|---|---|---|
| GamesRadar, January 2026 hands-on preview | Describes an encounter with “four Crimson Heads.” | The preview uses that name for enemies in the encounter; it does not establish Capcom’s official terminology or canonical identity. |
| PlayStation Blog interview with director Koshi Nakanishi | Describes zombies retaining traces of human intelligence and instincts, and a goal of making them unpredictable threats. | Official context for the game’s zombie design, but no identification as Crimson Heads. |
Why the Raccoon City setting raises the question
Requiem deliberately returns to the series’ Raccoon City roots. Producer Masato Kumazawa said, “With Resident Evil Requiem we wanted to return to a story that continues the overarching narrative rooted in Raccoon City and the secret machinations of the Umbrella Corporation.” That makes interest in returning enemies understandable, but a setting and story callback do not prove a specific enemy type has returned. The “14 years” claim is not verified
The sources supporting the preview report and Capcom’s developer comments do not establish the endpoints for a 14-year gap between Crimson Head appearances. Without a defined starting appearance and a confirmed Requiem classification, that number should not be treated as a verified chronology.
