Modified versions of the Roblox app and software that change how Roblox works are against Roblox’s rules. Cheats and exploits are prohibited too. But “mod” can mean different things: creators may set custom rules for their own experiences, as long as those rules do not conflict with Roblox’s platform-wide policies.
What Roblox means by “mods”
Roblox’s guidance addresses modified Roblox apps and software that changes how Roblox works; it does not establish that every customization someone calls a mod is covered by the same rule. The important distinction is what the tool or change actually does.
| What you mean by “mod” | Roblox’s stated position |
|---|---|
| A modified Roblox app or software that changes how Roblox works | Against Roblox’s rules. Roblox’s Anti-cheat Messages guidance advises removing unofficial versions and reinstalling the official app. |
| A cheat or exploit | Prohibited under Roblox’s Terms of Use; Roblox says cheating and exploiting can lead to account deletion. Roblox’s Cheating and Exploiting guidance also warns about malware and phishing risks. |
| Custom rules for a creator’s experience | Allowed if they do not conflict with Roblox’s Terms of Use or Community Standards. The experience creator manages those rules. Roblox’s custom experience rules guidance explains the distinction. |
| Another kind of customization or creator workflow | The cited guidance does not settle every tool or behavior that might be called a mod. Check the official Roblox documentation for the specific software and how it is used. |
Can you get banned for using Roblox mods?
Roblox says using modified versions of its app can result in a temporary suspension, and repeated use can lead to a permanent ban. Its guidance does not say that every change described as a “mod” automatically results in a ban, so the relevant question is whether the software modifies the Roblox app or changes how Roblox works.
Roblox separately states that cheating or exploiting violates its Terms of Use and will lead to account deletion. These are distinct enforcement statements: do not assume that every unofficial customization is treated identically, but do not use an exploit or altered client on the assumption that it is permitted.

Why exploit downloads are risky
Roblox warns that many exploit downloads are scams. They may install malware, including keyloggers or phishing programs, or seek personal information. A tool advertised as a way to gain an advantage can therefore put both an account and the device at risk.
Do not download or run exploit tools, injectors, or unofficial Roblox clients. If you have already installed an unofficial client, follow Roblox’s advice to remove it and reinstall the official app.

What to do if you installed a modified Roblox app
- Uninstall the unofficial or modified Roblox app.
- Reinstall Roblox from Roblox or an official app store, rather than from a third-party download site.
- Avoid signing in through links or software associated with an exploit download. If you entered account details into a suspicious page or program, secure your account using Roblox’s official account and security options.
How custom experience rules differ
A Roblox creator can set and enforce custom rules for their own experience, provided those rules do not conflict with Roblox’s Terms of Use or Community Standards. Such rules apply to that experience; they are not permission to alter the Roblox app or use a cheat.
Roblox says violations of an individual experience’s custom rules generally are not handled through Roblox’s Report Abuse system. For a dispute about an experience-specific rule, start with the creator’s stated rules and enforcement process. For a platform-wide safety or policy concern, use Roblox’s official reporting channels.

How to judge a tool called a “mod”
- Does it replace or modify the Roblox app? Roblox says modified versions are against its rules.
- Does it change Roblox’s operation, automate play, or provide an unfair advantage? Treat it as an exploit or cheat, which Roblox prohibits.
- Is it a creator’s rule or mechanic inside one experience? That may be allowed when it complies with Roblox’s platform policies.
- Is it another kind of customization? The word “mod” alone does not establish whether it is allowed. Check Roblox’s official documentation for the specific software and behavior before using it.
Roblox’s Terms of Use provide broader context: they prohibit altering or modifying the service except where expressly authorized or with prior written permission, and define the Services to include Roblox Player and Roblox Studio. For player-side modified apps, the more direct guidance is Roblox’s Anti-cheat Messages page.
