No. Nintendo Switch save data is stored in the console’s system memory—not on the physical game card or a microSD card. A game card lets you play the packaged game, but it does not carry your progress to another console.
Where Nintendo Switch game data is stored
Nintendo separates Switch data among system memory, a microSD card, and a game card. Saves go to system memory. Downloaded software, updates, add-on content, and captures can use system memory or microSD storage. The game card is not a place to store save data or software data. Nintendo’s data-management guidance explains the distinction.

In practical terms, removing or lending a game card does not move your save with it. The save remains on the console. Nintendo states that save data cannot be saved to or moved to either a game card or a microSD card.
Do physical and digital copies share a save?
Generally, yes: Nintendo says packaged and downloaded versions of the same game share save data. There are title-specific exceptions, so check the support information for the game if you are switching formats or do not see the expected save.

How to back up or move a save
Use Save Data Cloud for supported games
Nintendo Switch Online includes the paid Save Data Cloud service, which backs up saves for supported software. A backed-up save can be downloaded to another console. Not every game supports cloud saves, including some games with online play; check the game’s eShop product information before relying on this option.
Transfer save data between consoles
Nintendo also documents direct save-data transfers between systems. The relevant user must be linked to the same Nintendo Account for the documented transfer or cloud-download flows. Follow Nintendo’s instructions for the specific transfer method; a game card or microSD copy cannot substitute for a save transfer.

What a microSD card can—and cannot—do
A microSD card can provide more space for eligible downloaded software, updates, add-on content, and captures. It cannot store, carry, or restore Switch save data. Nintendo lists microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC as compatible with Nintendo Switch. Its guidance gives microSDXC a capacity range of 64 GB to 2 TB, recommends UHS-I with 60–95 MB/s read speed, and says microSDXC requires a system update while connected to the internet. These specifications concern storage expansion, not save backups. See Nintendo’s microSD compatibility guidance.

Switch 2 game-key cards are a separate format from standard Nintendo Switch game cards. A game-key card holds the key needed to launch software; on first use, the software must be downloaded over the internet to system memory or a microSD Express card. Save data for a game-key-card title is stored in system memory. That does not change the answer for standard Switch game cards: they do not contain your save. Nintendo’s Switch 2 guidance describes game-key cards and their storage requirements.
