Yes. OpenMod and RocketMod can run side by side on the same Unturned server. OpenMod detects RocketMod and applies compatibility patches, while Unturned’s official documentation describes support for existing Rocket plugins through RocketMod and LDM integration. That coexistence does not make every Rocket plugin an OpenMod plugin: each plugin still needs to be checked against its dependencies, configuration, stored data, and the Unturned version you run.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Unturned servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What “compatible” means in practice
Compatibility here means that both plugin frameworks can be installed, loaded, and operated in one Unturned installation. OpenMod’s integration documentation says it supports side-by-side installation with RocketMod, automatically detects RocketMod, and applies patches at runtime. Smartly Dressed Games’ Unturned documentation gives the same operational conclusion: OpenMod can be installed alongside RocketMod, allowing both frameworks to be used without choosing only one.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe important qualification is that coexistence is a framework-level feature, not a promise that every plugin will work unchanged. A Rocket plugin may depend on a particular RocketMod API, an external library, a configuration format, or behavior that changed in a newer Unturned build. OpenMod can provide the integration layer, but it cannot repair an obsolete plugin or replace a dependency that the plugin requires.
- Framework compatibility: OpenMod and RocketMod can run together.
- Plugin compatibility: every Rocket plugin needs an individual check and a test run.
- Service compatibility: permissions and economy can be linked between frameworks or deliberately kept separate.
- Version compatibility: the current Unturned build, framework releases, and plugin updates all matter.
How OpenMod integrates with RocketMod
OpenMod is not simply loading Rocket plugins as if they were native OpenMod plugins. Instead, it detects the RocketMod installation and applies compatibility patches so the two ecosystems can operate in the same server process. The official Unturned documentation describes this as compatibility with existing Rocket plugins through integration with RocketMod and LDM.

That distinction explains why a server can keep a mature Rocket plugin while adding OpenMod plugins, but still encounter a failure with one particular plugin. Integration covers the framework boundary; it does not guarantee that a plugin’s private assumptions, binary dependencies, permissions, economy calls, or data files remain valid.
What is usually safe to assume
- A correctly installed RocketMod and OpenMod can start in the same Unturned server.
- Rocket plugins can remain available while OpenMod plugins are added.
- OpenMod’s integration can expose shared permission and economy behavior when configured for it.
What must still be verified
- Whether each plugin supports the Unturned version currently installed.
- Whether a plugin requires a RocketMod module, LDM component, or another library.
- Whether its configuration and saved data are stored in a format the new arrangement can read.
- Whether commands, permission nodes, hooks, and economy transactions behave correctly after startup.
Permissions and economy: choose the ownership model
OpenMod’s integration settings document three choices for permissions and the same three-way pattern for economy. The defaults keep those services on the RocketMod side, but administrators can move them to OpenMod or isolate the systems. The RocketMod installation must be present as a separate module for these advanced integration settings; the legacy RocketMod Bridge does not provide them.

| Service | RocketMod-linked | OpenMod-linked | Separate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Permissions | RocketMod (documented default) | OpenMod | Separate permission stores and behavior |
| Economy | RocketMod_Uconomy (documented default) | OpenMod_Uconomy | Separate economy systems |
RocketMod-linked permissions or economy
This is the least disruptive choice for a server that already has Rocket groups, permission assignments, or economy balances in production. Existing Rocket plugins continue to consult the Rocket-side service, while OpenMod integration can use that same service. It reduces the risk of creating two unrelated sets of groups or balances during a gradual migration.
OpenMod-linked permissions or economy
Choose this when OpenMod is becoming the main administrative framework and the plugins you need are designed around its services. Confirm how existing Rocket groups, balances, and identifiers are migrated before switching. A setting change without data conversion can leave plugins reading different stores.

Separate services
Separate mode is useful when the two frameworks serve intentionally different communities or when you need an isolated test environment. It also creates the greatest operational burden: an administrator must know which framework owns each permission node and which economy a command is changing. Document the ownership of every critical command before enabling this mode.
Check plugin compatibility before changing a live server
There is no complete, current plugin-by-plugin compatibility matrix in the official material. Treat compatibility as a per-plugin decision rather than a single yes-or-no property.

Record every plugin, its framework target, version, required modules, configuration directory, database or flat-file data, and the Unturned build on which it was last known to work. Include plugins that appear inactive; an old dependency can still block startup.
2. Classify each plugin
- Rocket-only: depends directly on RocketMod APIs and must be tested through OpenMod’s compatibility layer.
- OpenMod-native: targets OpenMod and should be checked for conflicts with Rocket hooks or shared services.
- Dual-framework or independent: may support both frameworks, but still needs a version and configuration test.
- Unclear or abandoned: treat as a migration risk until it loads and its key functions work on a copy of the server.
3. Test behavior, not just loading
A clean startup log is only the first check. Exercise administrator and player commands, permission inheritance, chat or moderation hooks, teleport and kit functions, scheduled tasks, economy deposits and withdrawals, and any plugin that writes persistent data. A plugin that loads but silently fails to award currency or enforce a permission is not compatible for production use.

Installing OpenMod beside RocketMod
The documented installer route is designed for a RocketMod server. Perform it on a backup or staging copy first, then repeat the proven procedure on production.
- Stop the server and make a complete backup. Copy the server directory, RocketMod and OpenMod configuration, plugin folders, permission files, economy data, and any databases. Keep a dated backup outside the live installation.
- Confirm version support. Check the Unturned build, the RocketMod and OpenMod releases, LDM requirements, and every required plugin. Do not assume that a framework that worked on an earlier Unturned build will work unchanged after an update.
- Install or retain RocketMod as a separate module. This is required for OpenMod’s documented permission and economy integration settings. The legacy RocketMod Bridge alone does not expose those advanced options.
- Download the OpenMod Installer Plugin for RocketMod. Place the plugin file in
/Rocket/Plugins, exactly as described by Smartly Dressed Games’ installation instructions. - Restart the server. Let RocketMod load the installer plugin and watch the console for errors before attempting migration.
- Run the installer command. From the server console or an authorized administrator account, run
/openmod install. Review the installer’s output and generated files rather than assuming the operation completed because the command returned. - Choose migration behavior deliberately. The installer documents optional flags for permission linking, economy linking, migration, and extra components. Use them only after deciding which framework owns each service.
- Restart and validate on the staging copy. Check startup logs, plugin loading, permissions, economy balances, commands, and saved data before touching the public server.
The installer repository was archived on June 27, 2024. That archival status does not by itself prove that the installer is unusable, but it means you should verify the release, dependencies, and compatibility with your current Unturned version before relying on it for a new deployment.
Installer flags and rollback options
The installer repository documents these optional flags. Their exact effect should be confirmed against the release you download, especially because the repository is archived.
| Flag or command | Purpose documented by the installer | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
--no-permission-link |
Do not link RocketMod permissions during installation. | When OpenMod permissions will be authoritative or you are testing with isolated stores. |
--no-uconomy-link |
Do not link the RocketMod economy integration. | When economy ownership must remain separate or be moved deliberately later. |
--no-migration |
Skip the installer’s migration actions. | When you want a framework-only install before converting permissions, economy, or data. |
--no-extras |
Skip optional extra components. | When minimizing changes on a production-like test server. |
/openmod uninstall |
Revert the installation to RocketMod according to the installer documentation. | When validation fails and the backup or documented rollback path is safer than troubleshooting in place. |
Migration can include RocketMod permissions or economy. Before accepting that conversion, compare group names, permission nodes, player identifiers, balances, and data-file locations. Preserve the original files even if the installer reports success.

Validation checklist after installation
Startup and framework checks
- OpenMod and RocketMod both appear in the startup log without repeated exceptions.
- The expected Rocket plugins and OpenMod plugins are listed as loaded.
- No dependency is being disabled because of a missing module or incompatible API.
- The server reaches a normal ready state and accepts a test connection.
Permission checks
- Log in with an administrator account and a restricted test account.
- Confirm inherited groups, explicit grants, and denied commands.
- Test at least one Rocket command and one OpenMod command that use the selected permission backend.
- If services are separate, verify that a permission change in one system does not unexpectedly alter the other.
Economy and data checks
- Compare sample balances before and after migration.
- Perform a small deposit, withdrawal, and purchase using the intended economy provider.
- Restart once more and confirm that balances, player profiles, cooldowns, and plugin configuration persist.
- Check logs for duplicate transactions, missing tables, serialization errors, or permission-denied messages.
Troubleshooting common failure modes
OpenMod does not detect RocketMod
Confirm that RocketMod is installed as a separate module and that its files are in the server installation OpenMod is actually starting. Verify the plugin path and restart after correcting it. If only the legacy bridge is present, the advanced permission and economy integration options will not be available.
The Tool Desk

Read the first dependency or API error in the log, not only the final “plugin disabled” line. Check the plugin’s required RocketMod version, external libraries, LDM requirement, configuration format, and support for the current Unturned build. Remove or update the plugin on the staging copy and retest; do not repeatedly restart a damaged production installation.
Commands work for one framework but not the other
This usually indicates a permission ownership mismatch. Recheck whether permissions are set to RocketMod, OpenMod, or Separate, then inspect the actual group and node in that backend. Avoid creating duplicate groups until you know which store the command is querying.
Balances or player data appear missing
Stop the server, restore the untouched backup to a test directory, and compare data paths and identifiers. Confirm whether the economy was linked, kept separate, or migrated. A successful framework installation does not prove that economy records or plugin-specific files were converted.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
You need to return to RocketMod
Use the documented /openmod uninstall route only after preserving the post-installation files. If the installer version or game version is uncertain, restoring the pre-change backup is the most deterministic rollback. Validate Rocket plugins again after rollback because configuration or data may have changed during migration.
Should you keep both frameworks or migrate?
| Situation | Practical choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Several essential plugins exist only for RocketMod | Keep both | OpenMod can add newer or preferred plugins without abandoning required Rocket functionality. |
| All required plugins are OpenMod-native and Rocket data is no longer needed | Plan a staged migration | Removing an unused framework reduces moving parts, but data and permissions still require conversion and testing. |
| Permissions or economy are already stable on RocketMod | Use RocketMod-linked integration initially | It limits disruption while you test OpenMod plugins. |
| You need strict separation for testing or administration | Use Separate services | Isolation prevents accidental cross-framework changes, at the cost of more administration. |
| A critical plugin has unclear maintenance status | Keep the current working setup on a staging branch | Do not make an irreversible production migration until that plugin’s behavior is verified. |
A gradual migration is usually safer than a one-step replacement: install OpenMod beside RocketMod, keep the proven Rocket plugins, move one service or plugin group at a time, and remove RocketMod only after the replacement has survived restarts and normal player activity.
Operating a mixed-framework server safely
- Keep dated backups before framework updates, plugin replacements, permission changes, and economy migrations.
- Maintain a staging server that mirrors the production Unturned build and plugin set.
- Record which framework owns every permission node, command, economy operation, and data file.
- Read release notes for Unturned, OpenMod, RocketMod, LDM, and each critical plugin before updating.
- After updates, test both an administrator account and a normal player account.
- Keep rollback files until the mixed installation has passed several planned restarts and routine gameplay checks.
The answer to “Do I have to choose?” is therefore no: the frameworks can coexist. The responsible decision is not whether coexistence is technically supported, but whether your particular plugins, shared services, data, and current Unturned version have been validated together.
