In a pre-release interview with Game Informer published April 1, 2025, The Last of Us Part II Remastered game director Matthew Gallant discussed the more open-ended PC ecosystem and the studio having “a lot less control” over what players do with the game. He said: “We’re interested to see what players modify in the game.”

The wording supports a narrow conclusion: Gallant was interested in seeing player modifications. It does not announce official tools, a supported modding program, compatibility guarantees, or blanket approval. “Fair game” therefore depends on what a player means: the quote signals curiosity, not a general green light.
Does The Last of Us Part II Remastered officially support mods?
The cited interview does not establish formal mod support. Naughty Dog’s PC release announcement and the official PC features overview describe the PC edition and its features, but do not certify individual modifications or provide an official mod catalog or installation guide.

These are official port features, not evidence that a particular mod works. The official overview does not say every player needs a hardware upgrade.

No. In a report dated September 14, 2026, PC Gamer reported that mod creator Speclizer said he received a letter on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting that his planned multiplayer mod not be released. That is a report about one project; it should not be turned into a claim that every modification is prohibited or that the project was released.

It does, however, make the director’s general expression of interest an especially poor basis for assuming that any particular large-scale project is approved. The reported request and Gallant’s comment concern different things: one is attributed reporting about a specific planned multiplayer mod, and the other is a statement of curiosity about player modifications generally.
Which game version should mod discussions refer to?
Naughty Dog’s support page for PC patch 1.5 is dated July 8, 2025, and identifies game version v1.5.10702.0658. It lists the addition of Chronological Story mode alongside bug fixes, performance optimizations, and stability improvements. That is a dated version reference, not confirmation of the build currently available. The page is useful context when discussing a mod’s compatibility, but it does not provide a current mod compatibility list.
Because the sources here do not provide an authoritative current catalog, installation instructions, or compatibility by build, claims that a named mod is available or works on a particular version need separate verification.
