Rockstar has not confirmed PS5 remasters of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto IV. The claim stems from reports of unusual options on Rockstar support pages in July 2025. Those clues were indirect, reportedly removed, and do not establish that either game is being remastered.
What sparked the PS5 remaster rumor?
In July 2025, reports pointed to two separate support-page anomalies. On July 12, PC Gamer described an “Online Migration” option spotted on the Red Dead Online support site. The article noted that a similar feature had accompanied the current-generation release of Grand Theft Auto Online, but presented the option as a possible clue—not confirmation of a new Red Dead Redemption 2 release. PC Gamer’s report attributed the GTA IV clue to a user-posted screenshot showing PlayStation 4 as a platform option on a GTA IV support page.

On July 11, GamesRadar reported that the “Online migration” option had been removed and that the PlayStation 4 option on the GTA IV help page was also removed after it was noticed. GamesRadar’s account treated the details cautiously and advised waiting for official information.
A temporary support-page option or screenshot can prompt speculation, but it does not verify development plans. The reported clues do not establish whether Rockstar is working on either project, what kind of release it might be, or whether a release would come to PS5.

What has Rockstar officially confirmed?
Rockstar’s November 2020 announcement said the PS4 versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 would be playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. That describes existing PS4 games running on the newer console; it is not an announcement of a native PS5 remaster. Rockstar’s announcement is the relevant official information for playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5.
Rockstar’s store lists Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition among its games. A store listing for an existing game does not identify it as a PS5 remaster. Rockstar’s games store does not, in the reviewed listing, establish a PS5 edition of either title.

Backward compatibility is not the same as a remaster
Backward compatibility means a game released for an older console can be played on a newer one; it does not by itself mean the game has been rebuilt, upgraded, or reissued as a native PS5 product. Rockstar’s 2020 statement supports playing the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5, but it does not promise a remaster, upgrade entitlement, new features, or a separate PS5 release.

That is the first game in the series, not Red Dead Redemption 2, and it does not confirm a remaster of either title discussed here. Rockstar’s support notice concerns the original game.
