Delisting and service retirement are different events: the reported October 30 date is when the game will no longer be available to buy digitally, while December 31 is the reported end date for online services. Neither report establishes that every copy of the game stops launching or that every console version has identical post-shutdown functionality.

Which PlayStation and Xbox versions are included?
The official NBA 2K25 FAQ lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for PC. The headline’s reference to PlayStation and Xbox does not mean the game is limited to those consoles. The reports cited for the shutdown do not specify platform-by-platform exceptions.
The FAQ says online play requires an internet connection, a 2K account, and a separate paid subscription to the relevant console online service. It also says cross-play is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. These are requirements for online play while the service is available; the FAQ does not confirm what any individual mode will do after the reported shutdown.

Will a physical copy preserve online access?
No. A disc or cartridge may provide access to the game software, but it does not keep 2K’s servers running or restore server-dependent content after the reported service retirement. Buying a physical copy therefore does not bypass the online shutdown.
