Are Target and Walmart Pulling Xbox Stock? What We Know

Microsoft and Target denied a broad Xbox pull in October 2025, but those statements cannot confirm current Target or Walmart inventory.

No chain-wide Xbox withdrawal was established by the October 2025 reports. Microsoft said Target and Walmart remained retail partners for Xbox consoles, accessories and games, and Target said it continued selling Xbox products. Those statements are historical, however: they do not confirm what either retailer has in stock today, on October 8, 2026, or what it will restock next.

What prompted the claim?

In October 2025, social posts described a local Target reducing or removing its Xbox display. News reports also described sparse shelves or unavailable products at particular locations, while other shoppers reported finding Xbox products for sale. Those observations raised a reasonable question about availability, but a missing display or an out-of-stock listing at one location does not establish a chain-wide delisting.

Neither the cited reports nor the retailer statements described a verified policy to remove all Xbox products from Target and Walmart.

What did Microsoft and Target say?

Microsoft’s statement about both retailers

On October 13, 2025, Microsoft told Windows Central: “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.” This was Microsoft’s description of its retail relationships at that time—not a guarantee of current stock or future replenishment.

Target’s explanation for missing online items

Also on October 13, 2025, Target told ComicBook.com: “We continue to sell Xbox consoles, games and accessories, both in-stores and on Target.com. Select items are currently not showing up on Target.com because they are sold out, but once available again, consumers will see them on Target.com.” Target was explaining missing listings as sold-out items at that point in time. Its statement does not show whether a particular product is available now.

Do the 2026 Xbox changes mean retailers are dropping stock?

No. Xbox Wire’s June 25, 2026 update said global console price changes would take effect August 1, 2026: increases of US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models, with the 2 TB model being sunset. Microsoft attributed the changes to console storage and memory costs rising by more than 2.5 times and forecast another doubling by fall 2027. Those are Microsoft’s statements and forecast, not independent market measurements, and they do not establish that Target or Walmart is withdrawing Xbox products.

Xbox Wire’s September 22, 2026 update discussed changes to Xbox studio organization and a planned October 6 internal town hall; it did not announce a Target or Walmart stock withdrawal. That update is not evidence of either retailer’s current inventory or future assortment.

How to check whether a specific Xbox is available

Retail availability can differ by model, online versus in-store sale, location and check date. Verify the exact product rather than treating an unavailable listing or empty shelf as proof of a chain-wide decision:

  1. Search the retailer’s website for the exact Xbox model and storage configuration you want.
  2. Check the product page’s online availability and, if offered, select your store or ZIP code to view local stock.
  3. If the website shows no listing or no local stock, check again later or contact the store; the October 2025 Target explanation shows that a missing online item could mean it was sold out then, but it does not establish the reason for a missing listing now.
  4. Record the retailer, model, location and date when comparing availability. A result for one store or model does not settle stock elsewhere.

What can be concluded—and what cannot

The October 2025 reporting supports a limited conclusion: the claim began with local observations and social posts, while Microsoft and Target publicly described an ongoing retail relationship and continued Xbox sales at that time. The sources do not establish Target’s or Walmart’s live inventory on October 8, 2026, availability at any specific store, or either retailer’s future restocking policy. Check current retailer listings or store inventory for those answers.
