The supported content differs by console generation, and Bungie says the game will receive no further planned updates or content. Temporary maintenance can still interrupt access.
Which consoles can still play Destiny 1?
Bungie’s legacy-support pages distinguish the newer and legacy console versions:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Destiny - Standard Edition - PlayStation 4 | $15.60 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
Destiny - Standard Edition - PlayStation 4 (Renewed) | $9.80 | Buy on Amazon |
| 3 |
|
Destiny The Collection - PlayStation 4 Standard Edition | $4.55 | Buy on Amazon |
| Console generation | Supported content |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 and Xbox One | Content through Destiny: Rise of Iron, Update 2.6.0.1. Bungie’s Destiny 1 legacy-support page. |
| PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 | Content through Destiny: The Taken King, Update 2.3.1. Bungie identifies these as legacy-console versions. Bungie’s Destiny 1 legacy-support page. |
The content ceiling for PS3 and Xbox 360 is not the same as the PS4 and Xbox One version: those older consoles do not have the later Rise of Iron content.
What can you still do in Destiny 1?
Bungie’s legacy FAQ continues to list a range of activities, including the Weekly Heroic Missions Playlist, Heroic Strike Playlists, Nightfall and Daybreak featured activities, daily and weekly Crucible featured activities, several raids and boss challenges, Prison of Elders, Challenge of the Elders, Armsday orders, and visits from Xûr. See Bungie’s legacy-support FAQ for its activity details.

- Online only and requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
- An incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Not every mode or event from the game’s earlier years remains active. Bungie says Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and live events ended after August 2017. Continued server availability should not be read as a promise that every historical activity is playable.
Why can’t I log in?
A failed login does not by itself mean Destiny 1 has been permanently shut down. Bungie says Destiny 1 can be affected by maintenance. Check Bungie’s server and update status page for service notices. If there is no planned maintenance affecting Destiny services, Bungie recommends basic connectivity troubleshooting.
The support material establishes ongoing availability, not uninterrupted uptime at the moment you try to connect. It also does not provide a current active-player count or guarantee how many players will be available for matchmaking.

Moving a PS3 or Xbox 360 account to a newer console
Bungie supports a one-time account import from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One. The transfer must stay within the same console family and use the same PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag. Bungie’s instructions are in its Destiny account import guide.
