Yes. Counterfeit Pokémon TCG cards and products exist, according to Pokémon Support. A bright-light check, packaging comparison, and unusually low prices can help you spot warning signs, but none of these checks guarantees that an item is genuine.
How to check a loose Pokémon card
Pokémon Support says counterfeit cards are often visible through when held up to a bright light. Use this as an initial check, not a definitive test: the support guidance does not say that passing the check proves a card is authentic.
If a card still seems questionable, ask a shop that specializes in trading cards to evaluate it. Pokémon Support recommends this as a next step; it does not identify a formal certification service or guarantee that every shop offers authentication.
How to assess a sealed booster pack
Sealed packs can be harder to judge by appearance. Pokémon Support says fake booster packs can be very difficult to distinguish from real ones, so compare the asking price with the suggested retail price: a price dramatically below it is a serious warning sign. Price alone does not authenticate a pack.

How to compare product packaging
For a boxed or packaged product, compare its packaging with official images of that specific product. Differences can be a reason to investigate further, but an image comparison is not proof either way.
Be cautious with products called “replica” or “metal card”
In a notice dated September 19, 2023, Pokémon’s Japanese official site warned that unauthorized goods using Pokémon TCG intellectual property and trademarks were being sold online and in stores, sometimes under labels such as “replica” and “metal card.” Those labels do not mean the item is an official Pokémon TCG release. The notice described the company’s actions and plans at that time, including coordination with sales platforms and legal measures; it does not establish the current status of any particular listing.

Where a suspicious item came from is not proof
Pokémon Support says its highest instances of reported counterfeit sales originate from flea markets. That describes the reports it receives; it is not a market-wide estimate of counterfeit prevalence and does not mean every flea-market seller is suspect.

A card’s legality in the Standard format does not establish whether the physical card is genuine. Play! Pokémon explains that Standard legality depends on regulation marks and reprints; an older card may be legal if it has a current regulation mark. Those rules determine whether a card may be used in a format, not whether a particular copy is authentic. See the Play! Pokémon tournament rules and resources.
